Rylan just doesn't cut it without Iain

I know I won't be popular for saying it

But without Iain the bawdy hello sailor saucy postcard schtick all night just gets tiresome

I couldn't stand the guy at first, everything I hate, fake hair/skin and then by god the teeth

But I warmed to him as he got it together coping with his own development as well as coping for his thankfully expired co-hosts painful attempts

Then once he was next to Iain he was flying, looked great, calm, relaxed and very funny

But without the comedy sparring with Iain it just falls over, it goes all low rent to keep the morons on board and he's back to looking like he's winging it again,

anyone agree?

Totally agree and I really do feel sorry for him. He is way out of his depth and I have never understood why they took him on. Why do we have someone without any presenting experience "practicing" on BOTS. It's hardly a high brow show but this demonstrates just how low it can sink. Let's just be glad they dropped that shockingly dire Sunday mess/show.

Why would that opinion not make you popular? A lot of people think he's absolutely atrocious, with or without Iain.

totally spot on ! why do people think acting demented makes them funny, no you need more wit and substance, good luck to Rylan but he is pretty much talentless, at least Alan Carr adds witty withering remarks to his demented persona

Unless he is actually paying them, why should I feel sorry for him ?

What? I don't remember asking you, or anyone else for that matter, to feel sorry for him?

I apologise for posting my opinion.

He is just quite simply extremely annoying and looks strange with the designer stubble and bleached teeth. His vanity and campness doesn't help.
He might be OK as a guest but he is too much as a permanent presenter.

I agree OP and I'm actually finding BBOTS more enjoyable to watch this series. Ditching AJ was one of channel 5's best decisions.

I think Rylan does OK. He is getting quite slick and clean in his presentation. Its cheesy but its a cheesy show.

He is genre specific, I wouldn't want him presenting Question time or HIGNFY but for this sort of tabloid TV I think he is a good fit.

It's almost like they specifically hired AJ to give Rylan a comparative counterpoint - "oh he's not great, but at least he's not AJ bad".

Without her, there is no one to compare him against and it's clear he is simply abysmal.

When it was announced he was taking over the BOTS show I did roll my eyes but I take it back because he's not bad at all and I'm honestly surprised at how good he is considering he isn't actually a trained presenter. Funny, a way with the audience, is able to steer conversation away when it gets a bit controversial in a way that isn't cringe inducing. He treats the whole thing as a big silly joke which is quite endearing.

Rylan fine on his own and I often prefer him then Emma at times.

I also like Rylan's shows with Iain but you could argue Iain was the one to reduce the show "low rent to keep the morons on board", his humour is based on coming out with derogatory terms for the contestants, at least one female has to be called a tart or similar every show he does to get a laugh from the audience.

I daresay you are right. But don't you feel that BBBOTS is a rather one trick show - low rent camp comedy with a sound bite format and the same hackneyed comments and cliché's being rolled out night after night, year after year.

So glad AJ is gone

Can't stand Iain Lee

I found Rylan struggling the first show, but he's gotten better. I agree with the poster who said it's job specific...it's a camp and OTT show, and I think he's made for that.
