Does The Consistant 9 PM Timeslot Help?
RabidWolverine1

Just a general wondering. The ratings for this series is pretty good so far. Im sure probably better than Channel 5 were hoping for but is it because of the lineup or the timeslot...Or a mixture?

What I mean is even in the channel 4 days they like to chop and change the BB Time Slot around their other programming. On Channel 5 half the time it seemed to be on at 9pm and half the time at 10pm.

This series though for the most part (Or all the time so far though I may be mistaken) they seem to be sticking to 9pm. Normally that would put it up against tougher competition but at least its consistant and im not having to find myself looking it up every day to double check which time it is on

I agree, the time helps.
I also think it's the right time of year for it too, there isn't really any other big competition out there at this time of year. Its had a lot of press attention of late too, all of which are contributions.

Do we know what the nightly figures this series have been?

Usually the early 2 millions. It's dropped below 2 million only once that I can see:

Seems to be about the same as every other series on 5 that I can remember? It launched better than last CBB, but overall launch ratings were average.

The ratings have been up pretty much every episode except the launch compared to CBB11 , which was up til then the highest rated C5 series , and last night got 2.6m which is the highest in ages , well deserved as well

I imagine it helps ratings, but it doesn't help me Don't they know that many parents are putting kids to bed or sorting their kids out for bed at this time of night for heavens sakes? How dare they make me wait till later to watch it I have to go and find an 'illegal' site to watch it on as they take so so so long to put it onto Demand 5.

Bloody inconsiderate of them I say

The ratings so far are:

3.40m
1.86m
2.33m
2.43m
2.31m
2.63m

I do imagine that keeping at 9pm six days a week (bar Saturday) really does help.

Wow those are good figures. It also helps that there is no real post-Christmas competition on the other channels. I know that I watch Sherlock instead of CBB on Sundays because Sherlock is just superb and cannot be missed and I did watch The 7.39 instead of CBB this week (always catching up at another time, of course)... but other than those two shows, there is nothing else on that can seriously be called grown-up interesting entertainment.

ETA: I hasten to add that I am very well aware that CBB can hardly be called grown-up interesting entertainment either, but I love it anyway

I think the consistent time slot is definately a plus. Combine that with a generally good set of hm's this year and I'm not surprised the ratings are good.

Definitely.

I get up very early for work and the 10 o'clock slot was just a tad late for me. I like to be all snuggled under and putting my lamp off at about 10:30..It's suiting me just fine

The 9pm slot is great for me. Ditto the consistent schedule. I was constantly missing an episode either because I had to be up early or didn't realise what time it was on.

It's so far beating CBB11's over night ratings and is looking a little likely to beat it and CBB8s official average of 2.8m or match it at least.

Last night ratings are in and got 2.34m, and predict tonight will be over 2.5m. CBB11 time shifted around 500k-600k on average so if CBB13 does the same, it should become the highest rated series on Channel 5 altogether (including CBB and BB).

It's good but I do tend to end up watching it on the +1 Channel at 10:00 because there's normally something else good on at 09:00 but the consistent time helps.

I'm with you both there!! I find that it takes longer than an hour to watch anyway cos we have to keep pausing the telly to talk about what we've just seen, so if we start at 10 its knocking midnight by the time I get to bed and thats far too late it you get up at half 5!! I'd love the summer show to be on at 9 too, but I can't see it happening.

There's almost always something else I'd rather watch at 9, so I end up using +1 too. (Which -- a bonus -- also eliminates the gap they've been putting between the highlights and BOTS.)

I'd rather have it start at 10 even if it doesn't always start at 10.

And since there's no guarantee that it will be at 9, I have to check every day anyway.

How do they compare with the other January CBBs on C5?

I,ve still been watching it at 10 on +1 apart from the live shows, there,s always something else on at 9 and I dont like the gap between the main show and bots.

Exactly. The 10 o'clock slot just led me in to an extra cig out the back, or an extra cuppa ( or a small glass of Rose )

I would then log on here to see what others are saying about the show and before I know it, it's gone midnight. The 9 o'clock slot somehow makes me be good and go straight to bed after it.

I catch up on any BOTS I may have recorded in the morning whilst getting ready ( so I can chat at work about it ) or when I come home late aft noon

Cbb11 was the highest with 2.81m and CBB8 second with 2.80m officially. It is currently beating them both in the over nights...

Courtesy of Dancc:

Celebrity Big Brother: Week 1 vs last January
Friday: 3.40m (3.55m)
Saturday: 1.86m (1.97m)
Sunday: 2.33m (2.19m)
Monday: 2.43m (2.20m)
Tuesday: 2.31m (1.99m)
Wednesday: 2.63m (2.27m)
Thursday: 2.34m (2.15m)
------------------------------------------
Average: 2.47m (2.33m)

So far CBB13 is up 140k up on CBB11 in over nights. CBB11 did however increase throughout the run and timeshifted an average of around 500-600k, if CBB13 does this, we could maybe even hit the magic 3m depending on how the rest of the series holds up!!
