I consider myself very fortunate to have missed any NMTB episodes he appeared in, but I get exactly what you mean about him playing a character. He reminds me of that old Kevin & Perry sketch in which they both try and outdo each other by speaking in ridiculously OTT Northern accents, after Perry returns from a brief visit to his Aunt in Manchester. The irony is, that despite doing it in an attempt to make themselves appear 'cool', they both fail miserably and achieve the complete opposite, a fact which is not lost on the 'Mum' character who appears later on in the sketch. This was, of course, two adults portraying the characters of awkward teenage boys for a TV show, as part of their 'act'.
I wonder what 26 year old Nappy's excuse is?

Am I the only one that likes Dappy?”
Maybe your theory is correct, but if so, it then begs the question: How can someone then claim to be 'keeping it real'? I am fully aware that some people still put on a 'telephone voice' at times, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't involve them completely switching from one way of speaking to another, which results in their 'telephone voice' bearing no resemblance whatsoever to their usual way of speaking and is instead merely a subconscious effort to speak more clearly to the person at the other end of the phone, in order to try to avoid possible misunderstandings over pronunciation of words etc than they would when in their usual environment.
Interesting also that you say he 'acts on his best behaviour' in the Diary Room. Why should he feel the need to do that? Out of 'respect' for the authoritarian Big Bro maybe? Surely he can still be 'respectful' towards the various disembodied voices he converses with in his 'real' accent? After all, surely it's
what he says rather than the accent he uses to say it which counts, as Abz clearly proved when he was in there last series. He maintained the same accent throughout, (which was not that dissimilar to Nappy's to my ear) and still proved popular enough to be voted runner-up. Then again, Abz proved himself to be respectful to everyone in there, be it his fellow HM's or the voice of BB in the Diary Room. Abz was
consistent during his time in the house - Nappy is proving to be the opposite and therein lies the problem for me and no doubt other viewers.
