Gmail - address not required!
Interesting new 'feature' being introduced into gmail.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25680010 I suppose it will at least make people more careful about who belongs in your google+ connections. |

Seemingly it all goes into your social tab.
I'm not quite sure how wide the social group algorithm is, so some might choose to wait and see before turning it off. It is quite intrusive. If it was telephone instead, I would not mind being phoned by a friend. But for just an acquaintance it does looks spammy. As such it is likely best to go for the off switch. |

Agreed.
Other social networks allow you to be contacted by any "friends" you have on the site or publicly as well, and they also end up in your email notifications by default. Nothing new here. Move along. |

which is why you get 4 options to choose from
anyone from Google+ Extended Circles Circles No One really, this is a non-issue. Now if it defaults to 'anyone', well that would be a bit naughty. |

For example, I do not allow one of my children to have a Facebook (or any social network account) as I do not think they are old enough. I'm happy for them to have an email account which is way less interactive and people cannot search for you. According to the article if you create a gmail account it creates a google+ account. I wasn't aware of this and I'll now have to check if it created them an account when there gmail account got created, and now look out for the update so that I can change the setting. I'm not saying its a big issue, but it would be better if they made the default option as 'off' |

And Facebook email isn't joining social networks with email?
I don't even see what the difference is. You have a contact on a social messaging site. You select their name and send them an email. You have a contact on an email site. You select their name and send them an email. You have a contact in your phone or on an online address book. You select their name and send them an email. |

Thanks for your normal level of contribution.
really is a non-issue. anyone who doesn't like the terms of the FREE google linked services is free to delete and go elsewhere. no-one is forcing anyone to use them. |

"This feature is rolling out over the next couple of days to everyone that uses Gmail and Google+. You'll get an email with information and a link to the setting when the feature is available."
http://gmailblog.blogspot.co.uk/2014...re-easily.html I would 'hazard' a guess they they will tie it into your current G+ setting. |

As I understand it a gmail account was not optional in order to use service which I've paid for.

it's academic anyway, as you can still delete the google+ profile and keep the just gmail account.
