Maybe some of you experienced cat owners will know something about this...............

My husband and I have a cat. We got him around 6 months ago - a beautiful male, middle-aged tabby.

Neither my husband nor I has ever had a cat before - so we're new to it - however, we absolutely LOVE it, and ADORE him - he is so sweet, affectionate, loving, wants nothing more than to curl up on your lap and shower him with strokes and kisses - I really can't stress enough how amazing and gorgeous this cat is! We are totally enamoured of him, and think there is no more perfect cat in the whole world!

Anyway, he came in this morning after being outside for a bit, and sauntered over to me for a stroke. However, due to my hands being plunged into hot, soapy water, doing the washing-up, I said to him "won't be a minute" and planned to pick him up and cuddle him as soon as I'd finished.

Well, he behaved really bizarrely after that - he sort of raced up and down the hall v frantically, as if he were chasing something - and then he just vanished! I knew he hadn't gone out again, and looked in every room in the house thoroughly (and it's only a small house) and just could see no sign of him for about ten minutes.

Eventually, I found him - hiding under a recliner chair under a pile of blankets! He has never sat there before, and normally dislikes anything like a blanket being put over him.

The GOOD NEWS is that I gave him the cuddle of all cuddles after that, and we're now on good "speaking terms" again!

I just wondered - just out of interest, really - if his behaviour was due to me not stroking him the very second he wanted me to. Or am I crediting him with too much sensitivity? It doesn't really matter either way, now. I'm just curious to know whether it was because I'd upset him!

What do you think? Sorry to ramble on. Falling in love with this cat, and cats in general, more and more each day!

My elderly cat sulks for ages if I stroke or even talk to my other two cats...she gets beyond jealous.

Yes, cats really can be 'that' sensitive lol

oh yeah defo. Sasha was a right bugger for this, if he didn't get what he wanted he would strop off in mood. My sisters cat makes me laugh, you should see the look on his face when hes p*ssed off

There's something about having a poo that seems to make my boy cat behave in exactly the way you describe
he'll go out to do his morning business and then when he comes back in he'll rush around like a mad thing... all the while loudly miaowing at the top of his voice UNLESS he's passed me in the kitchen on the way back in.. then he just runs around like a mad thing.

Other than that yes, they are that sensitive and will sulk at the drop of a hat for an unimaginably long list of misdemeanors that you will unwittingly do.

ive had a few cats but the 3 tabbys were slight different and seemed to have a bit of insulariy / wildness about them

my cat had a funny five minutes meowing and skitting round the house after a poo too

How strange....

They're funny creatures. Maybe they're still hyped up from being on alert outdoors, but ours too comes in ranting and raving, with such a bolshy attitude, to let us know he's not only navigated wind and rain, but his mission has been completed successfully! He seeks us all out one by one, even shouting outside bathroom or toilet door and demands that we each hear about it in detail! When we say well done and make a fuss, he then settles down and becomes friendly again.

Mine yell at me and get cross when it's raining, like I somehow have magical powers and can make it stop

I also get punished by them paying me very little attention if I have been away overnight and someone else has been in to look after them.

I'm laughing at this Dollie.....goodness yes, our female cat knows that a suitcase in the hall is bad news and gives me the cold shoulder, when I get back!

v funny post; so apt! As my step-dad (a life-long cat-person) says: Dogs have owners, cats have staff! Mine will tell me which food he wants - if he wants a tin of gourmet chicken and liver, for example, and I give him some boring old biscuits, he's looks at me just a touch scornfully, as if to say: "Stupid woman! That's not what I want! Get me my chicken and liver!" Only if I give him some does he forgive him.

Had a good chuckle at this one! I never used to quite believe the extent to which people said cats were different from dogs, that dogs are people-pleasers, whereas cats want people to please them! But I'm finding out it's oh-so-true! We sometimes call ours The Little Tyrant (which he is - but we love him for it!)

I used to think I would never have a cat. I didn't specially want one. But then this cat TOLD us he was coming to live with us - he didn't ask, he just packed his bags and moved in! And transformed us into feline-o-philes!

Our old cat when I was growing up used to sit on her chair with her back facing us with her nose stuck in the air sulking, if ever my Mom had forgotten to give her a bit off the Sunday joint. Oh yes, they do sulk!!!

I've had several cats who go crazy after they've had a poo, running about the house playing and being silly. My cat Phoebe gets sulky if I give Mitzee attention. She's fine if it's any of the other cats, but if it's Mitzee I stroke then Phoebe sulks for a couple of hours. Not sure why she dislikes her so much.

Cats are so funny.

I have been out most of today, normally my cat comes through to see me and lies on my knee all night. Tonight, he has stayed through in the bedroom. He hasn't even acknowledged me. Huffy and moody.

My cat is exactly the same. When she comes inside, she makes a right old racket. Sometimes it's worse than others, depending if there have been exciting times outside.

The other day she raced into my office miaowing like a mad thing - I patted her and comforted her but it didn't work unusually. She then raced off miaowing to my husband who did the same. Then my 8 year old. I shouted through 'Cleo is very talkative, what's up with her' and my 8 yo replied 'it's ok mum, she's just trying to tell us there is another cat in the garden' and so there was.

Once I had a look with her, she was fine. Silly creatures lol

Just wondering whether maybe some water flicked on him when your hands were wet? Might explain it. Although to be fair, most cats will select another random room to run to a break neck speed for no apparent reason (but clearly it urgent business)...

I regularly end up in Brooke's bad books - I can relate to the not stroking on demand story! Though she is easily brought round with Dreamies or a meat stick
Today I got bad marks for keeping her in to go to the vet and putting her in the car to go to the vet - needed meat stick and some fish to make up for that!

Moll - how did the cat move in? Was it a stray who you took pity on or was it another story? Its nice when a non-cat owner takes a moggy on.

I was adopted by my cat too. just came to live with me after being abandoned - and another tabby at that. She's a real character when she wants attention. Scratching furniture right in front of you is her main ammo which she usually gets told off for. Then the sulks begin. Sometimes she'll sit on the sofa at the other end of the room from you, on the arm with her back to you for ages.

When the suitcase comes out she immediately dives in it and won't move. Then when I start packing and close the lid but don't fasten it, she'll open the lid and sneak inside, with the lid over her, and put cat hairs all over my clothes. After I get back I get the cold shoulder for about a day.
