Here is the demo from our friendly comrades in freezing winter Russia to aid us in our culinary skills:

I can't say I've ever noticed but then again I haven't used cling film or aluminium foil in years.

I wish I had some foil or clingfilm so I could check to see whether mine have those tabs.

Well you learn something new everyday
Even Asda smart price cling film has those tabs which I've never noticed before.

My Turkish in laws & relatives freak when they see me using cling film & foil for grill pans! There again, they also freak at microwaves - cancer is a cert according to them if used.
I remember a scare here years ago that resulted in writing on packs which were suited for what.

I've always used those tabs to keep the roll in place. Very useful!

My foil has no box. I buy loose rolls (packaged in clingfilm, funnily enough), unravel a bit and tear it off.

Me neither. But i've also not really had any problems not using them

I looked and my ASDA clingfilm does have the holes but the ASDA greaseproof doesn't

I've just checked and mine have the tabs - never noticed them before! Is it sad that I'm excited by this?

Glad wrap is usually Australian AFAIK - most UK products have a strip you need to tear before use.

Most people don't need to read the instructions on how to use tin foil

Haha, brilliant.

I'm all tabbed up ...... except on my M&S foil which has no tabs. Damn you, M&S.

I was hoping he was also going to tell me if the shiny side should aim towards or away from my chicken.

Me too - I say shiny side out but OH says shiny side in - and this state of affairs has been going on for decades now!

The first thing we do is throw away the box as we keep the foil and film in a specific drawer with grease proof and baking paper.
I roll out the cling film on the work top and lightly score it with a knife - the rest I just rip.
What's the issue?
