I don't really mind either but it does kind of feel a tiny bit more exciting during the Autumn though.

Spring for me too - 13 episodes from April to July and then six months wait for the Christmas episode and then just three months for the start of the new season. It never felt like you had to wait too long for the next episode of Who.

...Not with the actual filming, but it probably adds a lot to the time in post when it comes to redering the effects. Apparently that was the reason it took them so long to switch to HD. If i remember correctly, RTD said that (with the computer power at the time) he could only deliver a new series every 18 months in HD, rather than each year. Obviously computer power has increased massively since then, but that has probably been offset slightly by the demand to be even more creative.

B.T.W. To keep on topic. Autumn for me. Not the same without the "Doctor Who will be back in the Autumn" continuity announcement at the end of each (classic) series (sad i know )

I agree. I don't mind the Autumn run but it always feels longer having to wait 9 months for new episodes.

I'm hoping they have all 13 episodes plus the Christmas Special. If it airs from September 6th it would end a few weeks before Christmas Day meaning there would be a little wait in between the finale and the special.

OK so about the special effects in HD ect, well if they are having trouble in delivering them, they could get a few more people in to do the effects!
I can see that being the only issue though, so filming and editing are going to work in the same way!
Or the digital effects people will have to start on the footage as soon as the clips are delivered from filming and the footage could be delivered quite quickly if its sent digitally too?

You don't start actually working on effects shots until at least the first edit is done on the scenes concerned.
Can you imagine if you spent a huge amount of time, and therefore money, working on an effects shot only to find that it hasn't actually been used in the edit!
You don't even do anything but the most preliminary work on a shot that you know will be used until you know exactly how long it is and which frames have actually been used, which again won't be known until after the edit.

OK then the edits for each scene will need doing as they are filmed, so they can then have effects done as soon as.
However it works the effects just need doing sooner and with a bigger team.

Yes, I agree with this. The idea of it somehow being better or more appropriate if it is shown in the Autumn is just silly.

If you are watching a very good TV programme, with a really enthralling storyline (which is hopefully what the producers want Doctor Who to have) you are completely oblivious to the weather or how dark it is outside anyway, because you are just focused on the story. It certainly doesn't make it any more atmospheric or "scary" or whatever. And of course Classic Doctor Who used to be on at all different times of the year.

I can't stand the split series, it ruins the whole momentum of the show. I liked the original spring to early summer scheduling that started in 2005. It worked fine, and I don't think it needed to be messed about with.
