Some things can be fairly judged at a distance. Some things can't be.
Sexual mores are a tough one. Whether or not you believe women should be chaste and demure, or totally open with their sexuality it has a different flavor commenting on these issues with women than with men. Men typically can't have their entire lives ruined by people labeling them as promiscuous. Women can. It's not as bad as it was in previous centuries, but the terms remain because underneath it a lot of people still seem to believe that sex makes women evil.
