Cats stopped using litter trays?

My cats roughly 18-24 months old, for his first year he was kept indoors at all times,he had no problems using the litter tray and was fantastic. Then we started letting him outside eventually we left the little toilet windows open so he could come in and out of the house as he pleased during the day but brought him in at night, and outside we left another litter tray under a little shelter and this worked great but for the past 2-3 months, he first stopped using the outside litter tray doing his business at the bottom of the garden, then a few weeks later he has stopped using the in door tray also and thats where we are at now. He is not doing it about the house (yet) but fear he might start. Anyone any advice on this?

Its natural for him to do it in the garden, theres nothing to worry about.

We have litter trays in our utility room, one of our cats never goes out, she might have a little circuit of the garden in the summer but thats it. She is the main user of the trays. The other one will only reluctantly use the trays if the weather is so bad she doesnt want to go out.

Its how it should be.

Ah well thats not so bad then. When we had a dog he would of pooped around the entire garden, you could of found a poop anywhere, the cat however goes to exactly the same spot at the bottom of the garden every time, you have to lift it every day or 2 or you have a little mountain forming.

Lucky you! My kitten is 9 months old and she's been allowed outside since about August/September and she still won't go outside to do her business! Always rushes inside to her litter tray.

I change my cat's litter once every few months. She much prefers to go outside and will rarely use her tray indoors. I don't mind as it saves money. She will happily use one at the cattery, but the first thing she wants to do when she gets home is go outside. Cats can go for quite a long time without going. Mine is such a lazy bugger in this cooler weather so nips out for 10 minutes morning, late afternoon and just before bed at 11.30p.m. I am not working at the moment so rarely get up before 10.00a.m. and it isn't often she is bothering me to get up and let her out - usually she gets up when I do because I have moved and woken her.
