Cupcake sizes - UK and USA

Are American cupcakes bigger than UK cupcakes ?
When I watch TV shows like Cake Boss or Cupcake Girls etc, their cupcakes seem to be twice the size of UK cupcakes, well bigger than mine, anyway !
I use the 'Little Princess' cupcake cases from Asda, and I use the following proportions of ingredients :
240g margarine
240g Self raising flour
240g caster sugar
4 eggs
A splash of milk

I get 18 cupcakes from this mix.

How do yours compare to these? http://www.joyofbaking.com/VanillaCupcakes.html

There's a cupcake shop here in my village and her cakes are massive. If I buy one for my daughter she eats half one day and half the next. I think the difference is between home baking and professional baking for your shop.

Here's a picture from a display case of a cupcake shop in London. They don't look very dainty to me. http://cupcakequeenoflondon.files.wo...2/11/photo.jpg

I think the difference is that we are used to what were once called "fairy cakes". The cases sold in most supermarkets and the baking tins for them are for these.

I think if you want the larger size, you have to cook the cupcakes in muffin tins (which are readily available) and buy larger cases. I don't make cupcakes myself (I make fairy cakes) but maybe you can get the cases in supermarkets now.
