Are you in a 4G coverage area? It could have been the update for that.

What version do you have now? (Settings > General > About > Carrier)

15.6 should now show 4G in the mobile settings.

Yeah that's the update for the 4G settings. You should now have the toggle to enable 4G in Settings > Mobile

You still won't be able to use 4G until they activate it on your account though.

That can't be it. I had an update a month ago and that's when 4G was added to my settings.

I was told yesterday that there's nothing needing to be activated. Once the carrier update appears on a 4G compatible phone and you're in a 4G, it will all just start working. It doesn't have to be activated on individual accounts.

Best you call Three technical support that then. That's technical, not the standard customer support team.

If your not on the Trial you wont be getting any 4G whether you have the Carrier Update or not. If you don't believe it just have a wander into a Three 4G area and you find you will not be able to use it.

Once the carrier update is on the phone my understanding is that people will be enabled when Three decide to flip a switch on the radio network to allow phones to access it. I didn't realise there was further enabling on the handset.

If people are just going to post to say "wrong" then that doesn't contribute anything useful and they may as well not bother posting if they're not going to explain why it's wrong.

That's exactly the point I was making. I was told that once Three switch on 4G, if you have a compatible handset and you're in a 4G area, you'll just get it. There's nothing to be enabled on individual users accounts.

My post didn't mention the trial. I said nothing about the trial at all, so you're reading something into my post that isn't there.

I simply said that I was told there's nothing to be enabled on individual accounts. Once Three switch on 4G, if you have the right carrier settings (which I do) and you're in an enabled area, it'll just work.

I was responding to a post which seemed to indicate you'd need to ask Three to enable it.

I had that update around a month and a half ago, then, like you, received another update. I asked in the 4G thread but got no answer. It didn't change anything as far as I could see. I was already on 15.6 when I got the second update.

Which is still incorrect. You still need a SIM update regardless of the carrier update.

Update to the SIM card, or a whole new SIM card?

Update to the SIM card. Have I not explained this before several times?

It's a special OTA update sent via text message to enable the 4G "features".

You may have done but I haven't seen it. Funnily enough I don't spend my entire life on here. I leave the house and do other stuff.

So do I, but I have 4G already so I can spend my whole life on here AND go out and do other stuff AT THE SAME TIME.

I have a perfectly good, quick Three 3G connection which enables me to do anything I'd want to whilst out and about. I'll be happy to have faster speeds for free, but I don't really need them for my mobile or tablet use. They're already good enough for streaming and downloading.

I have a perfectly better, quicker Three 4G connection that allows me to spend my life on here even if I am out and about. So there.

Would you like your dummy back? Someone simply gave their understanding of the situation, no need to be condescending good sir. Can be just as effective by answering their question politely.
