Does anyone remember pink custard?
I'm positive when I was little I used to get pink custard at primary school but none of my mates remember this, I've looked in shops and cannot find any, I used to love it with sponge cake.
Does pink custard still exist? How do they make pink custard? Do they add food coloring to the yellow custard? Or do they add strawberries? |

Yep, I remember. Disgusting stuff. As were all school puds. I think that's maybe why I don't have a sweet tooth. Put me off for life!

It was just more milky blancmange
I remember my mate letting me have some (as i had packed lunches) and telling my mum it was yum. She asked a dinner lady for the recipe and we then had pink custard at home (was best poured over bananas!!) My mum also used to make it at the old peoples home she worked at years ago as they used to have big packs of the mix and could make 2 desserts from it. Found a recipe! ![]() http://www.littlestuff.co.uk/2011/01...-pink-custard/ |

We definitely used to have pink custard, mint custard and chocolate custard.
I loved all primary school puddings, including semolina! |

I remember the Teletubby themed pink custard.
Revolting stuff. As was the Tubby toast you used to be able to get. |

Too much artificial colouring back in the days. They could just add some beetroot juice to custard, as they do now with fruit yogurt.

Might have been Ambrosia's strawberry custard. Ambrosia also does milk chocolate, banana, toffee & vanilla flavours. You can buy them all at Tesco.

A hosptial I worked at @2004 would serve up pink custard and sponge with Sunday lunch; the elderly patients seemed to enjoy it.

Whoever said it was blancmange was right, if you make up about half quantity of blancmange mix with full quantity of milk you get pink custard.
My Nan was a school cook for a while and that's how they made it. |
