I remember pink custard, think they just added food colouring to normal custard, I swear we used to have mint custard as well
I remember Mint Custard being used with Chocolate slices.

If you make custard and eat it hot it'll be runny. Same goes for blancmange. If you let either go cold, they'll set.
This leads me to believe that school pink custard was just blancmange they hadn't allowed to set.

It's blancmange, not custard with food colouring.
No, it was different to blancmange, it was pink custard, it had the same texture as custard, I also remember the mint custard, I seem to remember having it with ginger sponge. Lovely! Could just eat some now.

Pink custard wasn't yellow custard coloured differently, it had a faint strawberry flavour.

You can make it easily by adding hot milk to Angel Delight mix.

Who cares?

mmm... you know I might get some blancmange mix next month and follow the online instructions to make pink custard.

What to have it with though?

In school we always had it with sponge pudding.
The sponge was cooked in large aluminium trays and topped with fondant icing.

My mum used to buy the blancmange variety box. Strawberry, orange, lemon, Banana and maybe another flavour . There was two recipes on the back . One for making up the powder as blancmange and one for making the powder up as custard. It is basically cornflour with colouring and flavouring.

For chocolate custard just make up your custard then add a dessert spoon ( or to taste) of drinking chocolate

If you want to make "pink custard" just take pink blancmange powder and add to milk, use less than recommended (trial and error). This will be how they did it at school.

Add strawberry nesquik to custard. I used to love a swirl of choc in my custard, now I prefer it uncontaminated.

All the custards served at school are basically just milk thickened with cornflour.

Normal Custard - Custard Powder (cornflour, flavouring & colour) + milk and sugar.

Pink Custard - Strawberry blancmange powder (cornflour, flavouring & colour) + milk and sugar.

White Custard - Cornflour + milk and sugar

Chocolate Custard - Cornflour & cocoa + milk and sugar

Mint Custard - Cornflour, peppermint extract & green food colouring + milk and sugar.

I loved the pink custard! Think they served it with either jam tarts or sponge cake.

Yes I know. I was just reinforcing the point to jarry as they didn't seem to get it and were still insisting it was some different product.

Ooh, and then add white chocolate, that would be yummy. Might try to make that later!

Good idea don't use Lindt white chocolate though as the hint of vanilla would most likely ruin the flavour.
