Decrypting HD .TS file
DSman
12-01-2014
I have transferred an HD programme to a USB stick.
I'm getting confused as to whether it's even possible to decrypt the .ts file on a PC.
Is it possible? tia

What was it recorded using?

If it was a Humax STB then it will depend if you recorded using Non Freesat mode, or if you are using custom firmware.

It is just an unmodified Freeview Humax HDR-Fox T2.
I should have used SD but forgot!

Can only be done on the box. Either using the Custom Firmware or using Raydons Foxy programme. This patches the .hmt file. Once this is patched the box will decrypt the file when it's copied to a usb drive.

Oh dear, that's what I didn't want to hear.
I looked at Raydon's Foxy programme but wasn't sure if it ran on the Humax or the PC.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

foxy runs on a PC but it only modifies the .hmt file to allow decryption so once foxy has modified the hmt file it needs to be copied back to the Humax and then the .ts file decrypted by copying to USB storage. If you are going to need to do this routinely you would be much better off by installing the custom firmware which will do everything on the Humax.

Ah, thanks Martin, that sounds good. I shall have a go at that.

It runs on a PC but accesses the file on the HDR FOX T2 remotely. Your box must be connected to a network. There's no problem here you either need to Foxy the file or use the Custom Firmware and copy it again to a usb drive. The CF allows the creation of a virtual usb drive directly on the HDR FOX T2 hard disk. If you deleted the recording on the box already, just copy back the 3 files .ts .hmt and .nts to the HDR and start again.

I am confused now!
"... foxy runs on a PC but it only modifies the .hmt file to allow decryption so once foxy has modified the hmt file it needs to be copied back to the Humax ..."
suggests it modifies the hmt file on the PC but
"It runs on a PC but accesses the file on the HDR FOX T2 remotely ..."
suggests it modifies the hmt files directly on the T2 box via the network.

I installed Raydon's AV2HDR-T2 programme and it only had File > Import Video.
I pointed to the folder containing the video and it accessed the .ts file and displayed:
"Packet does not contain a valid PAT table ID".

So, have I got the right program ( AV2HDR-T2) and if so, does it automatically detect the T2 on the network?
And BTW what is the File > Import Video for?

Thanks for all your time and help.

Have you tried playing the files on a PC using the VLC Player?

Yes, it doesn't play it. But would it cope with the encryption anyway?

VLC won't play an encrypted file.

Wrong programme, you need FOXY.

I may have misled you a bit, I was referring to the boxes built in network ftp capability. You can copy the .htm files directly to your PC, FOXY them and ftp the modified file back using ftp.

You them still have to copy the recording to a usb device to actually decrypt it.

As you can see you could use the programme with your downloaded file and copy it back using a roundabout route.

AV2HDR-T2 is used to create sidecar files from your own content. These create the full navigation etc you get with recordings made on the box.

Wow the Custom firmware and web interface is brilliant.

It is so much better to browse, delete and copy files using the web interface rather than having to go over to the STB put in a usb stick, copy the file (slowly) to usb, go back over to take it out, and then copy it back to the computer, again slowly.
Plus it gets over the file size problem.

Now I just have to browse the files and copy once (and faster).

Good work.

Success!!
That was so simple and quick using Foxy (I used the roundabout route!).
Thanks very much, again, for your help.

It's Raydon that deserves your thanks , he's the one clever enough to figure out the complete structure of the support files.

Originally for the Foxsat-hdr.
