This isn't a thread for complaining about what's fair or not fair. I am interested to see what people think of the couples who have got back together now we've seen them all once, and if that's added to the performance, or makes it meh.

From my point of view, Hayley being back with Dan made her routine seem a bit samey, and it didn't feel like they'd progressed. Watching Suzanne reunited with Matt was magical.

It would seem that the old couples, and real-life couples have an advantage in that their professional partner will be more committed to making their celeb look good, and perhaps put in extra hours. Not many new partnerships would have the professional moving into the same house in another part of the country.

Then again, I enjoyed seeing Beth with a new partner. I think she is someone who will be able to raise her game more with a fresh approach, rather than being too comfortable.

Thoughts?
(But please resist the urge just to complain about things being unfair because we've been there already and it's dull)

Agree with all of the above especially re Hayley and Dan - Hayley just seems so false in comparison to Suzanne.

Agree about Hayley and Dan - I was surprised to see him back with Hayey tbh and not Beth - surely the reigning champions should be skating together.....

I cant remember Suzanne and Matt but they were utterly sublime last night

I agree about Beth and her new partner, they are going to be great I think.

Slightly off topic but regarding the two real life couples, being couples I think put people off them, it did me, especially Sams routine with the kiss at the end.

Yes with Hayley you do get the feeling of seeing it all before. Jai Ho was her stand out performance, after that possibly Endless Love...and that was it really

I'm happy to see Ray with Maria again, and I think next week they will begin to get into their stride again and we'll see his scores going up. Especially if he does a Latino routine at some point - being a Latin and ballroom champion.

Sam's whole routine was cheesy, and at the beginning of the VT he said to camera 'I'm back' which possible put people off. Being in the skate off will have been a shock to him.

I hope from now on it's public vote and judge scores combined, to balance things out. Otherwise it becomes a popularity contest. Then again, they included the judges scores in 2009 and Coleen still reached the semi final

I do think being reunited with winning celeb partners might be something of a reward for the longest serving pros to whom it has happened. I don' t mind that too much but others may cry foul.

That's a good point. If the pro has someone they definitely got on best with, and they think they are really well suited to, it would be madness to push them to partner someone else.

I also think that with Beth, being last year's champion, there would have been no sense of intrigue seeing her back with Dan. You get that with a new partnership, or an older one re-united. As it turns out, Dan and Hayley was't anything new, but we didn't know that until we saw it.

So far, Ray and Maria are a bit "neutral". There is definitely something to be gained from the familiarity, and knowledge of what they can do together etc etc, but a lot of Ray's tricks were solo tricks, so the benefits for him are more back-stage than from their on screen chemistry.

And he did that bride and groom gimmick with Brianne as well

Agreed - there seems to be a real sparkle between Beth and Lucasz

I think Luk suits Beth as a partner far more than Dan did, and maybe that is partly why she is doing so well. Controversially, I feel that Lukasz is a better skater overall than Dan although obviously both have their own strengths. I'm pretty glad that Dan was reunited with Hayley now, they are a great match!

Suzanne and Matt are definitely good together. One can detect a genuine, trusting friendship there.

Hayley and Dan are reputedly very good friends but with Hayley's OTT personality it's difficult to see past the exaggerated protestations of undying friendship. Having said that I enjoy the Beth/Lucasz partnership more than I did the Beth/Dan coupling. Although Dan brings 100% support and commitment to his partner, whatever their ability (or lack of it) he does lack some of the strengths of other professionals and I think Beth is reaping the rewards of a partner who can showcase all her skills.

Sam and Vicky - could have worked if they hadn't milked their relationship for all it's worth. The bride 'n groom routine was vomit inducing.

David and Frankie - as above. In view of David's penchant for discarding wife and children to tread pastures new, I found the flaunting of his and Frankie's relationship very distasteful and disrespectful to his previous families.

Ray and Maria - this is clearly a warm and professional friendship. Ray's ability is such that some pros might feel a little anxious - even a little threatened at the standard of his performances; not so in this partnership - he displays his talent without every upstaging Maria. Indeed he showcases her perfectly - this old partnership definitely works.

I've got to agree with some of the other posters that the real life couples emphasising their relationships clearly isn't working with the public.
David & Frankie got kicked out and Sam & Vicky were in the skate off when it was just public voting. You'd think that the producers would have wised up that the off-ice relationship isn't a vote winner and dropped it from future VTs and performances but it looks like they're determined to continue.

Re Dan & Hayley: I wonder if the fact they're such good friends means that he's finding it difficult to criticise her gurning and jazz-hands performances. Maybe that's why it doesn't seem to be working this time. Last time they had the advantage that she was clearly one of the best in her year but with a much higher standard of competitor this year it's rather highlighting her flaws.

Ha! I really enjoyed her routine this weekend, but that grin is just too much. I found it really distracting.

I completely agree about the real life couples not working - they just seem quite cheesy. I don't like Sam and Vicky as much as I liked Sam and Brianne. Brianne just always seems to have an extra something though maybe they wouldn't have been popular with producers after the showmance.

I am loving Suzanne and Matt and Ray and Maria. Hayley was always my favourite but she and Dan are just a bit much now!!
