HTC Backup
I have an HTC ONE and HTC Backup is automatic every day.
I now have another HTC ONE. How do I 'pull' the data from HTC Backup to make it like the first phone - do I need to insert the SIM? The offer of setting the phone up from HTC Backup is there on the 'new phone startup screen' but the new phone says the password is incorrect. I take it that I need to insert the SIM or is it possible without? What steps to I need to take? Thanks. |

This what I found on their website
When you turn on a new HTC phone for the first time or after a factory reset, choose to restore content, and then select Restore from HTC Backup on the Set up phone screen. Sign in using your HTC Account or Facebook account, depending on which one you used to back up your phone before. Sign in to the same Dropbox account that you used to back up your phone, and choose to allow HTC Backup to access Dropbox. Your backup history will then be displayed. Select a backup, and then tap Next. Wait for your settings to be restored. Tap OK to continue restoring your previously installed apps. Your apps will be restored in the background, and you can track the progress via a notification in the status bar. Your apps will appear in the All apps view as they are installed. The All apps and Home screen shortcuts will be reorganized as in your backup after all of your apps have been installed. You may continue using your phone while apps are being restored. Tip: You can also go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset > Restore from HTC Backup. Before this, make sure you've already signed in to the same account that you used to back up your phone before. Also, if you've started changing settings or data on your phone, clear the App data and settings restore option before restoring your backup to avoid overwriting them. |

Thanks. After quite a bit of faffing about I managed to download from the HTC backup. However all Google Play apps I had were not installed and so I had to order them afresh. Thankfully I did not have any paid for ones!
When I then transfered my 3 SIM I was asked 'install carrier apps' (yes or no choice). I said yes and promptly all the apps went AWOL and I had to order them a second time. However other settings (texts, dictionary and bookmarks were installed). The old HTC ONE was June 2013, the Jan 2014 replacement seems to have better battery life. |
