Hey.
Has anyone who has bought the "Day of the Doctor" blu ray had any technical problems with it? I've read a few things about it that don't sound too good. surely the BBC haven't messed this up? cheers.

Personally I don't have any problems with the sound. However, and this is presumably because it was shot in 3D, it's quite laggy in certain parts in regards to the picture. Some scenes look very 'stuttery' but I don't think there's any way around it.

No audio problems here (using the full DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack decoded by the blu-ray player). Video was fine too. Played flawlessly.

The Blu-ray runs at 24 frames per second, like most films at the cinema, which is different to TV and DVD.

Try checking the Blu-ray player settings to make sure it is set play at 24hz when playing the appropriate discs. If it isn't, it may be converting it to 50hz which could be causing the stuttering.

As long as your TV is good enough to run at 24hz then you should get nice smooth video.

How can it play in 24fps if it was broadcast in 30 fps?

Is it playing slow on the blu ray, or did we see it speeded up on TV?

Slowed down for Blu-ray, I believe. Just under 80 minutes compared to 76 minutes on DVD/TV apparently. (I don't have the DVD to check)

Hmmm, wonder what the proper speed is.

Unless you are in America or somewhere with a 60Hz electric supply it wouldve been broadcast at 25FPS on TV.
It was played in many cinemas around the world though, so I wonder if the BBC actually made it in 24fps and then converted it to 25fps or 30 fps, for whichever TV standard was needed?
If it was made at 24 fps though then the BluRay couldve been done as that!

On another note the picture for DOTD on Bluray sometimes has black slithers down the left side of the picture in the 2D mode, I presume this issue is caused by being filmed in 3D?
If someone could enlighten me about this it would be good!

There is quite a lengthy thread on the frontios part of gallefrey base on this matter. Gets very technical at times but answers most questions. To cut a long story short there is nothing wrong with the dvd but the blu ray is faulty

Ok thanks everyone. Think i'm gonna give the Blu Ray a miss unless the BBC does something to sort it out.

does that mean that if we send the Bluray back to the BBC when they fix it they will replace it for us?

By the sounds of it the bbc are not doing anything at all about the sound problem.
