Challenge of the week

As it's the Allstars DOI I hope they really want to challenge the celebs with different skills.

We've had solo for 30 seconds, props, specific skills but they've seen it all before.

I'd love to see celebs skating alone for longer and also how they'd cope with having a change in partner one week without losing the intensity in training?

I might stop short of making them all drunk before they go on the ice... but that would be impressive.

Any more?

Hate your ideas, sorry!

They skated a solo performance in series six, and whilst Sam and Laura were quite entertaining, it didn't go down too well with me...

As for swapping partners, I don't understand why. What exactly is the challenge? It takes quite a bit of time for them to trust each other, I'd imagine, and also to bond. Why would you want to sit through a load of performances that lacked in those areas? Seems a bit of a pointless challenge to me.

I have no idea what they could do to mix it up, though. I'm quite boring and would just like to see a simple competition between them all without any "twists" that are just there to manipulate the outcome.

I'd like to see the celebs having to skate an entire routine on their own. The male celebs not only have to stay upright on their own skates, but also manage to lift and carry their pro partners.

Some of the celeb females do prove they can skate with confidence & ability, but there are those - well, one in particular - who still spends most of the ice time being carried on her pro partner's shoulders or hanging on to him for dear life, and yet somehow getting great scores. Who knows, maybe ever Todd Carty could get great scores if someone was to carry him round the ice instead of expecting him to actually skate!

Fair enough.

I like to see if they can actually skate and challenge us without relying on their partners but you're right, if they can't do *that* without tricks it's boring. That's why it's a good challenge to really identify which ones you want to progress. If they can keep you entertained they'll get your vote. But then if it's been done before yuck - I totally blanked on that.

Changing partners doesn't mean they lose their ability to skate but it does challenge them and as they are all really good it would be an idea to make them work hard for it! Ideally it should be entertaining but if they're going to win they should earn it.

But if they're boring they're boring - I just don't want it to be an easy ride for them this year. Can you skate underwater yet?

The problem is that as it is some people get difficult moves because they can do them, and then lower marks because they can half do them. Meanwhile, other people get nothing much beyond the basics, and get high marks for basic skills, while others get strong dance routines that attract votes and marks, with little difficulty in the routine. Thats why professional routines would be marked for difficulty achieved and the artistic skill shown doing it.

A weekly task would allow people to gain marks for difficulty and bridge some of the gap. You could allow people to do a simple version of a skill or a harder one, or both, or none, in a routine, and adjust the total mark available for that routine accordingly. It worked in the past, these people are skilled enough to learn more, and it would even things up. As it is, its totally within the power of T and D to decide the weeks marks, and vote, by who gets the couple of most mark and vote friendly routines - that half the people there could do.

By 'weekly task', do you mean 'required element' like they used to have

Have just read on Twitter from someone who was at Slough rink today where Ray and Maria and Bonnie and Andrei were training saying that she was told that next week the couples are choreographing their own routines! If that is correct then it could prove interesting as some pros and/or celebs will have more choreography experience than others. I would think it may favour those with a dance background?

The other comment was that Rays routine this week is 'cool and fast' whatever that may mean!

If Ray's 'fast' routine is on par with Rock Around The Clock I can't wait to see it
