Breadmaker help?
petral_gal
14-01-2014
Hiya! Right, I got a Morphy Richards Fastbake breadmaker (model 48280) for my Christmas, and it's stopped kneading after 5 uses. I phoned the helpline this morning and they gave me instructions to reset the memory to restore it back to factory settings - but I can't remember exactly what they said and the phonelines aren't open outside working hours

Does anyone happen to know how to do this? It's something to do with opening the lid, loosening the pan and pressing buttons but I can't remember what order (and i'm awfully impatient). If anyone can help i'll be awfy grateful!!

x

PS, i've tried googling it to no avail!!!

I've got the same maker - it worked ok for about two years, now it's doing the same as yours!

I don't know ( didn't know) about a resetting function - I know the weather heat/cold/ damp can effect the bake.

My bread, be it Wrights' mixes or my own from their recipes doesn't allow the bread to rise anymore - it's comes out like a brick?!

Aw that's rubbish I never got a chance to call customer services today due to work, but i'll try again at the weekend. When I find out what to do properly i'll post it up x

Mine's been tripping the electricity on the bake cycle, so been having to scoop the dough out, and put in the oven. Salvageable, but messy.

Going to give another go tomorrow. I had cleaned the inside recently, so maybe something got wet?

Yet another one for the Panasonic.

I have had the fastbake for about 4 years now and to be honest what it produces is ok and that is it.

I have found bread from other breadmakers to be ok and that is it. The main problem is the paddle, having a small paddle going round and round is not really kneading the dough enough, the other problem is that hole in the bottom because of the paddle. I tend to find bread from a bread maker heavy.

I prefer to bake my own from scratch, but only get time to do so now and again. I also think is it really any cheaper than buying bread?

As for the reset, I never knew it had one.

Forgot to ask - what Panasonic model & why do you recommend it ( or any other machine considered great) compared to my MR fast bake? I'm really interested as I might have to buy a new machine.

I have a Panasonic SD253 but that model is 10 years old now. I recommend it because as long as you use new yeast and the right amount of water, you'll get success most of the time. Maybe the newer models are even better.

I agree that having a hole in the bottom of your loaf is a bit rubbish.

These days I just wait until about 40 minutes before the end of the cycle and remove the bread, put it in a silicon bread mould and bake in a conventional oven.

Nearly all the work is done for me but I get a loaf without a paddle imbedded in it.

I've always wondered that about breadmakers. I'd hate a loaf with a hole through it.

It is a bit of a nuisance and as the breadmaker gets older I find more bread seems to get stuck to the paddle meaning the hole can be quite large.

Also I don't really care the for shape of the breadmaker tin - it's a bit too tall which can make cutting a fresh loaf a bit difficult.

I have the Panasonic SD-2500, which is their current model. Bought it because of the many reviews saying it was the best and haven't been disappointed. I've had it almost a year and now make all my own bread, which I think is as good an endorsement as you can get! I normally chuck the ingredients in before bed, set the timer and the loaf is ready the next morning - couldn't be easier. It also does a fine job of just mixing/kneading if I'm making something more elaborate than a loaf (rolls, pizza dough, naan, bagels, croissants, cinnamon buns etc!).

Compared to other bread makers it's apparently larger and takes longer to make a loaf, but the results seem to be worth it. If you're going to buy one, this is the one...!

I have had two Panasonics and they have both been brilliant.

I only got rid of the first one because the bread tin became scratched and lost its "non stick" capability.

It cost nearly as much to replace the tin as to buy a whole new machine so that is what I did.

As mentioned earlier in the thread I usually don't cook the bread in the machine any more so hopefully my newest one will last a good deal longer.

good point about the pizza dough, that's the other thing that my Panasonic does really well. Haven't bought a supermarket pizza for quite some time now!

I have a Bluesky BBM1038 breadmaker, which I bought here on Rhodes, Greece
It has a small paddle which stays in place after the bread is removed.
Being small it only leaves a small hole in the loaf.
On the internet I found a receipe & use ordinary cheap plain flour.
Brilliant results every time.
Just put in the ingredients & set machine for loaf size & colour

Okay, not that anyone will be too fussy but I thought I'd update I phoned Morphy Richards this morning (eventually!!) and they got me to try resetting - you do this by taking the pan out and starting programme 1, apparently this clears the memory or something. The wee spinny-roundy bit at the bottom should still spin round (like to knead) but mine didn't so that means there was a problem with the machine.

So I'm getting a new 48323 sent out this week if that one buggers up then it's off to Panasonic I toddle!!

Also take it back to the shop if it's broke so quick! Why are you dealing with the manufacturer? Your contact is with the shop.
