Long Post Nearly lost my baby

I nearly lost my baby cavvy Charlotte last week she's nearly 10. She fainted twice hacked up blood serious coughing and laboured breathing was very ill she got a heart murmur graded at a 3 last year. We took her to the emergency vets and they put her in a oxygen tent her lungs were full of fluid and put her on 20mg furosemide 3x a day and 5mg vetemdin 2x day been back and forth the vets since seems the medication is working no longer no fluid on lungs and her heart hasn't worsened which I was worried about she's also on cardiac royal canin dog food. But the reason for this post I live in the north west but still work in Essex so a lot off train and car travel she comes to work with me but the funding for my job is due to end soon but im in a catch 22 I need to work to pay for all her stuff about 60-80 a month but I don't want to leave her beside her self all day im so scared off leaving her and I don't no what to do iv been applying for jobs left right and centre and heard nothing im so worried if I cant get another job in time how im supposed to afford this as well as rent council tax etc.. I was sooo inconsolable I was soo scarred I lost her shes like me shadow we go everywhere together and when the vets suggested euthanasia I screamed NO at him. so just looking advice really

You won't really like what you'll hear but almost ten is a blooming good age for a cavvy most of them have heart defects. I would imagine it won't be too far in the future where you will have to consider its kinder to her to have her PTS

If your vet suggested euthanasia because of financial reasons that's a bit off, but if he's suggested it for the dogs sake you have to consider it. You need to think about the best for your dog as opposed to what you want for you. I'm assuming you either don't have insurance or your policy won't cover it?

A dog sitter would be an obvious - though not cheap - solution. Either in your home area or where you work - though is a lot of travel good for such a poorly, old dog?

That said, the above would be as long as the Vet's PTS advice was based on finance and circumstance rather than the poor wee thing's best interests. You can't keep her alive for your sake, only for as long as she has a good quality of life.

You won't always be able to get a job where you can take her with you. It is very unusual for a vet to suggest euthanasia so I would think the vet must think it will be better for the dog's sake.

I have never known a vet suggest euthanasia for financial reasons usually they are happy to keep taking the cheques. If they suggested it because the dog is suffering then you must seek another opinion and if they agree have your dog PTS. In some cases it's the last loving thing you can do for them.

Sorry you are in this position.
