Loved him as Trigger...sublime
![]() And John Lumic was a wonderful 'evil mastermind' kind of character... almost pantomime in his scheming but brilliantly done by RLP. A shame his character was essentially replaced with a voiceover'd Cyberleader in The Age of Steel... the whole plot just seemed to want to escalate in the same way the then-recent Series 1 finale had introduced the Emperor Dalek in The Parting of the Ways. |

Very sad news, he was a fantastic actor, both in comedy roles and serious roles like his character in Doctor Who

Sad news. A fine comic actor and by all accounts a lovely man. I thought he was great as John Lumic.

Very sad to hear of this news as well. I'm also doing a run through of Only Fools and Horses and enjoying all his performances as Trigger.
Thought he was excellent as Lumic in the Cybermen story. It showed there was more to him than comedy roles and he could play it straight. It was a shame he had that accident and had to perform sitting down but it didn't affect his performance one bit, though it was a shame you didn't see him once he'd been upgraded. I thought maybe he could have been a more humanised upgrade like the lady in The Next Doctor which would have been better. I also have as my text tone 'Alright Dave.' Just superb!
