I didn't see it as whining. He appeared to have left the bedroom without comment (as Dappy was asking him what was wrong) and Dappy asked why he didn't speak up, he clearly didn't want to. Dappy spoke up on his behalf, which again was obviously something Jim didn't want.
I think Jim was prepared to sit there until everyone had fallen asleep and then he'd have gone to bed. No whining. He didn't even go to the the DR about it.
