Queen's early albums were brilliant and I had forgotten how good they were until reminded by this thread.

There are lots of reasons why Queen were so good, they gave glam rock a hard edge at the time, they experimented with musical styles, sounds and studio techniques, they composed complex songs but didn't become too self-indulgent, they told stories. I think Queen were heavily influenced by the idea of rock opera in the early days which is why you get that tremendous variation of styles/ genres and dynamics within songs right back to the first and second albums.

And then you get the covers which define everything about them, Queen l Freddie the showman caught in the spotlight and on Queen II, the iconic picture of the four together. In any history of UK rock and pop music Queen's works are nearly all required listening.

Love nearly all of Queen's output, but for some reason Innuendo has always been my favourite album.

It's emotional (These are the Days of our Lives, The Show Must Go On), it revisits Queen's rock roots (Headlong, The Hitman) and the title track is a six minute masterpiece which rivals Kashmir in my opinion.

On the subject of the first two albums though, my personal favourites are Night Comes Down, Jesus, Nevermore, Great King Rat and White Queen (As it Began).

My favourite Queen single is Another One Bites the Dust 9(he Game), my favourite non single is 39 (A Night at the Opera).

I liked the first three albums and thought Sheer Heart Attack was probably the best overall, in spite of that stupid guitar solo which ruined Brighton Rock.

I bought A Night At The Opera and tried to like it, but quickly realised that they had become caricatures of themselves. I found everything they did after that unlistenable.

Queen Liar was the groundwork for Black Queen for me.

John Deacon stepped out of the shadows on Sheer Heart Attack.

When comparing their albums to the best of David Bowie's and Led Zeppelin's, yes I do.

I can't believe 'It's Late' never became a well known favourite, amazing song.
