Hulu: Classic Who bonanza
TEDR
19-01-2014
A heads up for Americans and others in America: Hulu, Plus at least, seems suddenly to have 368 episodes of Classic Who available, covering 23 series (4, 5 and 23 being absent). Given that there were only 696 episodes in total, that means it's more likely that they have a randomly selected serial than that they don't.

Compare and contrast with the 98 episodes available through Amazon Prime and the 75 on Netflix. Doesn't that make the adverts almost bearable?

I notice also that Netflix US has a better selection of Doctor Who than UK. You not only get S6 of New Who but also a decent selection if Classics.

I did enjoy watching Horror of Fang Rock again the other night even if I do own it already.

It seems they get whatever is unlikely to sell much more on disc, which often means exchanging programmes — so e.g. Netflix UK got each episode of the final year of Breaking Bad the day after transmission but Netflix US doesn't have it yet. Doctor Who appears to have flowed the other way.

My first watch upon discovering the Hulu trove last night? Dragonfire. There, I admitted it.

and why not! A fun watch!

To be honest US Netflix is as much of a mixed bag as UK but they have a few very good things we are yet to get. Most noticeably the entire X Files back catalogue which I had been hoping would show up on UK. The rights issues must be terribly messy and convoluted. Like US has Being Human and Sherlock. Like you say. Its seemingly based on what will and won't make more money on DVD/Blu-Ray in the respective regions.
