Monday 20th January is Tom Baker's 80th birthday (shame the BBC aren't marking it by repeating one of his stories on BBC4, but never mind).

How should we celebrate?

Watch either The Talons of Weng Chiang or The Deadly Assassin. Both stories were fantastic.

The BBC didn't bother repeating any classic Who (or cheap, slow and wobbly Who as the Beeb regard it) for the 50th anniversary, so why would they do it for Tom's birthday?

Congratulations to Mr Baker on becoming the first Doctor to make it to 80.

Actually, for the 50th anniversary, they did repeat the very first story (the one I think we now call 100,000 B.C.) on BBC4

I think if older episodes are shown, BBC 4 is the most likely place as it's a cultural channel so viewers will be able to watch the stories taking into account the low production values. Your average viewer nowadays isn't going to see past those.

That story is called An Unearthly Child, which is of course also the name of the first episode in that serial.
