You make very valid points.
Sadly, it seems that the 'producers' think that a measure of ritual humiliation is actually 'entertaining'.
Perhaps paying more regard to viewers tastes and preferences might just be a novel way forward for the future.
Producers are not particularly well equipped, artistically or otherwise to set public tastes. Rather, it should be the other way round.
