If You Had To Change "The Five Doctors" ?
Shoppy
20-01-2014
I just got this idea after posting in the "Baker In The Five Doctors" thread, so just for fun who would you pick if you had to...

-Swap the First, Second, Third and Fifth Doctors for any other four Doctors?(and swap the Fourth Doctor in the Time Eddy for any others Doctor)

-Which companions would you have with each?
-Which companions would you have appearing as "phantoms"

-You've got to keep Borusa but you can swap any from Daleks, Cybermen, Ainley's Master, Yeti, and the Raston Warrio Robot

Can I have Five Paul McGanns?

Troughton - Jamie, Zoe
Pertwee - Jo
Baker - Sarah Jane
McCoy (Stuck in Time Eddy)
Tennant - Brig

Ghosts

Troughton - Ben, Polly
Pertwee: Liz, Yates
Baker: Romana
Tennant: Rose

I'd have Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels,Ice Warriors, Kroton, Delgado Master

I'm going to go for...

First Doctor in the Time Eddy
Fifth Doctor & Peri (could it be squeezed between his last to stories?) encounter The Master
Seventh Doctor, Ace & The Brigadier in "Bessie" encounter Cat People
Eighth Doctor & can I have Lucy Miller?
Eleventh Doctor & Clara

Adric and the Ponds appear as phantoms to the Fifth and Eleventh Doctors respectively.

Keep Ainley's Master but...
...put Cybermen instead of a Dalek in the tunnels...
...Sontarans instead of Cybermen trying to get in the TARDIS and being double-crossed by the Master
...and a lone RTD-era Dalek in place of the Raston Warrior Robot.

So basically if you wanted to create a new episode then?

Get rid of the Pi references. I have honestly no idea how Pi was relevant to the doctor crossing the chessboard.

I was just thinking in that same scenario where you've got multiple Doctors, multiple companions, multiple monsters.

Okay, so I would pick...

Fifth Doctor and Peri (in the Big Finish continuity there's a large gap for this to happen in)
Eighth Doctor and Lucie
Ninth Doctor (stuck in the time eddy)
Tenth Doctor and Donna
Eleventh Doctor and Clara

Phantoms:
For Five - Adric and Tegan
Eight - Grace and Lee
Ten - Rose and Jack
Eleven - Amy and Rory

Enemies:
Daleks (in a more prominent role)
Lone Gaiman Cyberman (instead of the Warrior Robot)
The Silence
Derek Jacobi as the Master
Silurians

I'd cast it as if it were still made in 1983:

First Doctor in the Time Eddy (as Hartnell was dead)
Second Doctor: Jamie & Victoria (would like to have gone with Zoe but Padders was preggers at the time so couldn't fit into that jump suit)
Third Doctor: Jo & The Brigadier
Fourth Doctor: Sarah Jane & Harry
Fifth Doctor: Peri

Phantoms:
2nd: Zoe
3rd: Liz
4th: Romanas 1 & 2
5th: Adric (so we can all be relieved that he really is dead)

Ainley's Master. Monsters as per the original.

I would keep the first five Doctors but have the First Doctor to be the one stuck in the vortex and the Fourth to have a more prominent role. Richard Hurndall would have played an android imposter of the First as originally intended. Susan would have appeared alongside Ian and Barbara, who were looking for the real First Doctor but reluctantly end up with his android imposter instead. I would have gone out of my way to make note of the differences as well as the similarities between both versions of the First, with the android version trying it's best to "learn" all of Hartnell's mannerisms.

There's not much I would change other than that. But the Daleks would have been featured more heavily and I would acknowledge the aged appearances of the Second and Third Doctors.

I love The Five Doctors, and so the only things I'd change are as follows:

Don't bother with involving the First Doctor. I always thought it was a bad idea to recast a Doctor. I still don't like it. They recently did it for that Big Finish 50th celebration, and I just know I'm gonna cringe when I someday listen to it.

Insert Tom in. As they're my top two Doctors, I've always wanted to see Davison and Baker's incarnations meet and interact. I bet the contrast between the two would've been extremely entertaining.

Give Turlough and Susan something to do, other than standing inside the TARDIS and worrying about how the Cybermen are soon gonna blow them to kingdom come.

Delete that awful moment where Sarah falls down the hill. It's a quibble, but still.

Oh come on I think you're making a big deal out of nothing there...

Include the Fourth Doctor, but that's a given. Have him hang out with Romana before they meet up with One, Two and Three.

Also, an awesome battle between the Daleks and Cybermen. None of that "Doomsday" stuff where the they sass before the Cybermen crumple like wet tissue. I want a proper battle between them that seems like it could have ended the lives of the Doctors.

Then BOOM! Out of nowhere the Raston Warrior Robot! Comes out of nowhere and just blows them away.

I don't think that last point is minor. Its truly embarrassing it ever made it to screen! I love Classic Who for all its occasional flaws and ropey moments. Part of the charm. But that wasn't a quirky bit of low budget shoe string effects. It was just slap dash, lazy and insultingly bad television. Whenever you read some of the classic who hardliners pontificating about how smart and intelligent and wonderfully crafted Classic Who was compared to flashy, emotional and 'childish' New Who I just think of moments like that one and have a little chuckle.

Its up there with the often over used Star Trek clip with Kirk versus the space lizard and the bouncing rocks in the embarrassment stakes.

I like that idea. A proper battle between both species where each side gets as much of the action as the other. It also would have been nice if Three had properly encountered the Cybermen because we never encountered them whatsoever in his tenure, but it was nice we saw him with them at all.

I think the moment where Sarah Jane falls down a gentle slope & has to be winched back by Bessie when it would have been easier to get up and walk back was worse.

You have to keep the Raston warrior robot, it was awesome. I wouldn't change any doctors but I'd rather them have more screentime together. Lol despite it's flaws I still love the story. I quite like the factor no one mentions yhe aged appearance of the doctors, it didn't really matter hen and it dosn't really matter now.
