Good post- I think a lot of people on here just see the Cora who is angry and stubborn but there is much more going here- Cora is a very layered character and herself and Stan are a great pairing.

The death of Cora's husband may have been the catalyst for her going off the rails but that was years ago. She has also resolved her issues with Ava but that hasn't changed her. Blaming the past is easier than taking responsibility. Since her arrival she's been a nasty, drunken, judgemental mooch who turns on everyone who tried to help her - Dot, Max, Tanya and Patrick.

They'll have a bit of banter, whilst slagging off their families

The writing has not been the best for Cora, an Actress of Ann Mitchell's calibre should be getting better material.

An equally self-perpetuating vile partnership with no redeeming qualities. One can only hope they both perish in this upcoming fire.

I have no doubt that Ann Mitchell is a talented actress. However, she is playing a character who thinks she is wise and fun but is really judgemental and vicious. Cora lacks insight into why she does what she does and how her actions affect other people. That lack of insight paints Cora into a corner. It would be unrealistic for her to suddenly have an epiphany, realise she's hurt people and start trying to be a better person but if she continues to behave the way she has she will wear out viewers' sympathies which are already getting thin.

I agree with you but that is my concern with DTC's direction of Cora, she is a layered character and that is a good thing - Cora's skin does not prick easily and she has built up a strong defense mechanism because she has been hurt in her life- I am still keen to find out more about her past before she met William although we know she gave up Ava. Stan can see through Cora's prickly nature so I am hopeful that we will see a softer side to Cora at some point through her friendship with Stan.

I agree with you but I think she has tried to at least make amends with her family. She was there for Tanya throughout her cancer, she tried to get in contact with Rainie but was told to stay away for Rainie's sake and she did what she could with Ava The Rava but that storyline was a lost cause. She isn't a particularly warm character but I do find something fascinating about her using her harsh persona to protect herself. I can tell there's a decent human being in there somewhere and she does care for others but is afraid of showing it. She has said and done some stuff which can't be excused but I don't think she's into Shirley territory yet.

If Cora marries Stan

Lee marries Whitney

and

Phil marries Shirley

The Carters will be embedded into several other family units.

Maybe they will have Johnny shake up with a new headed Steven Beale and have them linked into their family too.

I'm really disappointed Stan is leaving him and Cora were fantastic together. I wanted to see them marry and for Cora to become Shirley's stepmother.

Cora is left hurt next week when she finds out Stan is terminally ill but it will also bring back memories of her late Husband William who died of Cancer.

I'd like to see Stan and Cora marry before his death. Maybe he has some money tucked away and Cora could come into conflict with the Carter family regarding their inheritance. Cora would be brilliant in the wicked stepmother role. She needs some direction to go in.

I just meant that as an expression. She can be difficult though and I would like to see some drama between her and the Carters as their stepmother. I do believe her feelings for Stan are genuine.

It would have to be a very rushed storyline
