Issue 1 ARC connection is very difficult to set up but finally there, the only problem now is that I only get sound through a linked Panasonic BTT400 home cinema when viewing a SD channel on freesat. Interestingly though I get sound when viewing a HD channel when connecting a separate Freesat box via HMDI to the TV.
I have checked and tried different HDMI cables with the same result.

Issue 2 more of a limitation unless I have missed a setting. when connected a USB HDD to use as a PVR I can't find a way to set a series link. It's also a shame you have to format drive to use it to record tV and it seems you can't use it to store films or other content

I take it you are referring to the built in receiver in the TV?

It's possible the TV is trying to output surround sound from the HD channels. There may be a setting in the menus to force it to use stereo which is what the SD channels will be using.

The external receiver may well be outputting Stereo on all channels which is why it works.

Try a factory reset on the TV as this looks like either a fault or human error. From what I can see everything should just work, with surround sound, without lots of effort. Does it work OK on freeview? Do you get sound from the TV speakers with the AV system disconnected? You can contact Panasonic support for advice but if it is under warranty, and faulty, it's your dealers problem.

That's quite correct -- all tv's do this and the only answer is 2 hard drives or more logically stream your content from your phone or PC , if its all on your PC then you just keep the content in one place.

How are you finding the TV ? sharpness , clarity & brightness particularly on SD material ?

Thanks all, yes I was referring to the built in Freesat of the TV, I haven't tested freeview as I don't have a suitable Ariel. I do get sound from the tv speakers with nothing attached.
I will try a factory reset to see if that works, also interesting point regarding the stereo options, I'll have a play with those, I remember in the initial setup of the blu ray it had options for all speakers surround sound or something like that

thanks again and will let you know- I have been into Currys on the off chance there might be an expert there!! Ha ha

Where have you put the HDMI lead for the surround sound ?

Should be HDMI 2 as this is usually the ARC output on Panny tvs

He is getting sound on SD so I assumed the arc bit is working, It is the bit about it being difficult to set up that puzzled me. If you buy two compatible items from the same manufacturer they tend to just work without much effort. You may need to do something simple, such as switching on HDMI sync so that turning the TV on also turns on the surround sound and selects the right input but that's about it. I wondered if he delved into the menu system having misread the instructions, a factory reset of the TV and perhaps the surround unit as well should clear any errors of that sort and enable him to start again.

Sorry it's been a while! Anyway a factory reset sorted all the issues, I now get sound on HD channels
Really pleased with the TV having given it a good test
For info: I was told before I purchased it that one limitation was that it didn't have ITV player, however because it receives freesat channel 902 covers that
