I don't know which is the best as I haven't bought a supermarket chicken kiev for years.
On the Nigel Slater show last year when they tested them they agreed that the more expensive range the better the kiev. So basically keep away from the basic or standard ranges. |

I haven't bought a Tesco one since that Channel 4 documentary last year.
The Waitrose ones are nice. Made with proper chicken breast rather than the "mechanically reclaimed" stuff. |

Sainsburys do 2 types- the 'formed' chicken ones and the more expensive whole chicken breast one which are much better (but almost double the price at around £4 something for 2)
Personally I think i normally go for for the more expensive option (or buy them made by our local butcher, which probably isn''t much help if you don't live in Ruislip! |

I love the SFC ones if you google SFC chicken Kiev there are pictures of them. I would imagin they are from independent retailers as I get mine from Batleys cash & carry in Doncaster. I have never seen them in supermarkets. I wonder if they have them in Iceland. I will have to look

M and S ones are nice.
It is so easy to do your own though and then you can go overboard with the garlic butter then. I did my own tonight as I had seen this thread earlier. I was going to stuff them with cheese and mushrooms and cheese, but in the end I did garlic butter and spinach. Yum yum

The best I've seen is the Tesco Finest for £6 which was on offer at one point. It had the most amount of chicken breast and least amount of fat I've ever seen.

After reading this thread, I bought 2 Chicken Kievs from Lidl. They are 67% chicken breast and only 15g of per standard 150g portion.
Beat that! Much better than the Co-op Kievs which were 31% reformed chicken. |

They are a popular dish, so supermarkets usually carry several "grades" of kiev.
Here is the Tesco range... I buy these ones: http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=264567646 They are whole breast (but filleted), not reconstituted. The chicken has taste and the garlic butter is ample. 62%. Note that Tesco's do a more basic one than the above, which is reconstituted meat - this is the one that comes in additional "flavours" (viz: creamy peppercorn, creamy garlic, reduced fat, free range, cheese and bacon, and, briefly (seem to have gone now) cheese and onion). 56%. They also do two "Everyday Value" types, one fresh, one frozen (the price is significantly different for some reason). Both of these are reconstituted, too. 46% and n/a. Then there is a Finest one, which is bones left in (I don't like bones, so never had it). 75% (but does the weight include the bones?) They also do a packet-of-four frozen offering. I haven't had these, but the price-per-pound seems to indicate these are near the Everyday Value ones in quality. n/a. |

M&S (who actually started off the KV trend back in the early 80s, along with sell by dates) and Waitrose. No one else.
