I currently have a Sky+HD PVR and Sky Subscription, but as it is a 50% off for 12 months deal that runs out on Feb 28th, and I have to phone in a few days to give notice to cancel, I was wondering what the best Freesat HD PVR was at present.

The feature I'm looking for are HD, decent size hard-drive, the catch up facility and if possible the ability to play video files from a NAS. My TV does have Freeview HD but no recording facility, but some of the channels I like are satellite only (CBS Action, Drama, Horror).

Cheers

I'd suggest looking through the options here http://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat...d/freesat-plus and then if you see any PVRs you like then I'd suggest plugging in their details in places such as here and here to see what the actual user reviews are like.

As you mentioned catchup I would recommend one of the freetime units.
These are the second generation of freesat units, the link posted in the previous post points to first generation units, some of which should be avoided as of dubious quality.

The Humax HDR 1000S is the box for you.

If you want something a bit cheaper you can look to Humax Direct for a refurbished box. http://www1.humaxdirect.co.uk/Direct...sat?ck=factory

I was in the same position as you at the start of this year. I took the plunge and went for the Humax HDR 1000S. Its excellent!

Well worth the money!

You can record 2 and watch a 3rd (depending on the transponder you are recording the other two on).

GET IT!!

Cheers, the Humax does look good. I read that it can play video files from a NAS using DLNA, anyone know what formats it'll play?

Also, Are there any on-demand services on it like Netflix, Lovefilm, Flixster and Blinkbox?

Cheers

Hi

It plays various file formats, mp4, jpg mp3.

No premium on-demand yet, it would be a great addition.

Cheers, so it won't play mkv's or divx? That's a shame as was hoping to retire my media streamer.

I've played some mkv's through the box, although I tend to convert mine to mp4 as it only takes a few minutes and you're guaranteed compatibility.
