Well Im hoping that Dr Who Day of the Doctor will be up for film nominations as it was on at the cinema!

Really nice to see the two awards especially in the drama category as there were some strong contenders. I thought Broad church would win actually but well done Matt

I don't see how Matt could lose, to be honest, with both Tennant and Cumberbatch spun off into that ridiculous 'Best Telly Cop' category.

I must admit I (personally) think both David Tennant and Olivia Coleman would have won if they had stuck with Best Dramatic Actor and Best Dramatic Actress. Its the one thing I hate about the NTAs, how they casually muck about with the categories each year (Catherine Tate was robbed in 2008!).

But Who won fair and square for Best Drama which is great. Its been four years since we last won that one, so its nice to have it again.
So 3008
22-01-2014
Doctor Who - 6/9 wins
David Tennant - 4/4 wins
Billie Piper - 2/2 wins
Matt Smith - 2/4 wins
Christopher Eccleston - 1/1 wins
Karen Gillian - 1/2 wins
Freema Agyeman - 0/1 wins
Catherine Tate - 0/1 wins

Total: 24 nominations, 16 wins.

More news as we get it but speculation is rife that both programs are to be cancelled and replaced with an extra long bumper run of Atlantis. Well, Matt and Benedict are outstanding. Moffat is lucky in his leading actors.

Congrats. Nice way to finish off the 50th celebrations and Matts time as the Doctor. He has been brilliant.

Broad church isn't something that I imagine would lead to obsessive fan voting and it was on quite a while ago.

The NTAs are a popularity contest at the end of the day. Matt's not been as popular as he predecessor (David Tennant won four times on the trot) but he's done OK.

Would he have won if Tennant and Cumberbatch had been in the same category . . . ?

That stupid detective award was such a cop out. And from what I can gather Sherlock was eligible from repeats? Might as well have Only Fools in the comedy section.

This was a BIG night for Who. I don't think a lot of people would have expected both of those wins, what with the competition in those categories. With Benedict Cumberbatch picking up an award too, Moffat must be ever so slightly pleased with his shows and his boys.

Well i say bumped into. More like she turned around because I was trying to sniff her hair. But she said she stopped watching Doctor Who when they stopped having blobs of fat in it and that bloke from the Virgin Media adverts. So that's pretty much fact- but he didnt really explain Rorys name badge and arcs and stuff. I'm going on Twitter to complain about it.'

BBC bosses are said to be shocked by Barry's remarks and considering immediate action.”

This may be of no value or interest to you but I'll say it anyway.

I voted for Doctor Who and Matt Smith in the NTA's but it was by no means a ringing endorsement for Steven Moffat.
My votes were out of general loyalty to the show but mostly for Matt who I thought was a great Doctor and he richly deserved recognition for his performance.

I voted for Cumberbatch but that was because the detective I wanted to win didn't make the cut and he was the best out of the options available.

I wasn't slagging off Only Fools. I love that show. However it shows how ridiculous it is if Sherlock got in on repeats!

It's funny how when it suited people the NTAs were a show for chavs. Doctor Who had only won because RTD appealed to the lowest common denominator of soap fans . Tennant only won because of the fan girls or my favourite because he had no competition (yeah, only his own companion and several big soap stars.)

It should be celebrated that Doctor Who has a fan base that are still loving it nearly ten years from its return. Does it make people's personal criticisms of the show currently less valid? Absolutely not! Everyone is entitled to feel the way they want about the show without others taking offence. Sure it is annoying when people claim no one watches anymore it's losing millions of viewers etc or that the EOT is a mess RTD should take the blame for when it had an AI of 89! But to deride people's opinions with the well it's still popular if rather condescending. Sure it is but that doesn't change the fact that personally I think the current way of presenting them makes what are probably simple storylines hard to follow.

Sherlock was eligible because of Series 3, the majority of which aired in the first week of this year making it eligible for the public vote.

Some funny posts on here. This is not going to be one, I'm afraid, because I just want to say; Well played, and very pleased that Matt won. Wonderful Doctor, top bloke.

From what I saw of the NTA's the whole show is heavily biased towards ITV so I should think that the detective award was designed to benefit Broadchurch rather than Sherlock but it rather backfired. It's all rather irrelevant and silly anyway. Broadchurch caused a big stir when it was shown a year or so ago but Sherlock is causing a big stir now because it's only just finished airing so it was obviously the more likely show to win.

That shows the issues with public votes. Timing and types of fan base do play a huge part. If ITV really were trying to sew the award up they made a big mistake putting both OC and DT forward and splitting there own shows vote!

I knew I read it somewhere. This article states it is because or repeats. Which is ridiculous! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24115686

I was going to say... I remember voting in the first phase back in October and was surprised Sherlock was on there.
