I am not a Moffat fan but I am pleased the show won best drama in its 50th anniversary year and I am pleased Matt Smith won best dramatic actor in his final year as the Doctor. Would he have won if he had been up against Benedict Cumberbatch or David Tennant? Hmm . . not sure he would have.

And whilst its great for the show that its won, its not really a ringing endorsement of the Moffat years. Winning four years running - now that's a ringing endorsement!

All these "what ifs" and "would haves" - well they couldn't and therefore didn't - so let us enjoy these nice things while we can still have them.

It would be nice if Moffat fans developed a sense of humour, or a sense of proportion, or both.

I'm more than likely going to be accused of being a Moffat hater but the show sucks. A four or five year story and arc and once again the climax is the daleks and they don't even cause the Doctor to regenerate, its another soft option where the Doctor dies of old age, exactly like Hurts too. Someone send Moffat a box set of Fringe so he can maybe learn what a proper sci fi show is like

Yes let's pull the Doctor's innards out, and get him to die a "proper" death. Or something along those lines.

The last 2 doctors died of radiation/ energy absorption. IMO it's good that Matt's Doctor died of something different. And the war Doctor died of old age because he'd fought in the time war for all of that life! It's not the same as Matt's Doctor staying put in Christmastown for 900 years. Or maybe this was on purpose, to draw a parallel between War Doctor (now exhonourated) and 11. Essentially they were fighting for the same thing. Peace, and sanity. Except one fought in the war, the other fought to prevent it breaking out again.

I'm sick of every positive thread on this forum being polluted by people criticising for no reason. Its fine to have your negative opinions but is it really necessary to turn a thread about DW winning a couple of awards into another Moffat flame war?

The ironic thing is that from its tone Philip Lamb's post was probably inspired by those posters pointlessly and provokingly referring to 'Moffat Haters' when no-one had posted anything remotely like that...until, arguably, Philip's post (though i do wish we could use a more appropriate word than 'Haters' - what do people who use it in this context use for the really big things that truly deserve the word).

It doesn't matter whether Tennant or Cumberbatch were in the category or not - because they weren't. It doesn't matter if Broadchurch was aired later instead of earlier - because it wasn't. It doesn't matter if the 50th boosted Doctor Who ahead this year - it's a good thing that it did. It doesn't matter if you like Steven Moffat or not - he wasn't in a Best Executive Producer category. It doesn't matter that Doctor Who didn't win in 11, 12 & 13 - neither did Sherlock, Shameless or Merlin - and there are people who like those shows, too.

Yes, but to be fair, all TV drama nowadays sucks. (The only things really worth watching nowadays are the gameshows.) But Doctor Who sucks slightly less than the rest, so it's only right that it should win.

Well I haven't been selected I don't think. But if I am would be quite happy to join the Moffatolas. They certainly sound as if they have a cool continental dissident quality about them. Or maybe they are trying to overthrow the Mexican government, although that sounds rather more dangerous.

Any way, I was very pleased to see that Who had a double win at the NTAs and also delighted that the 50th anniversary episode ended the year as the most watched drama. A triumphant year for Steven Moffat but really I am particularly pleased for Matt Smith.

But what you said about the estimable Mr Smith. Hugely well deserved, so well played the lad. (In his early thirties; that's a lad to me. )

I've not seen any one saying the show or Moffat should be beyond criticism. No one has said anything of the sort. My admittedly rather unamusing posts were however meant in jest in particular at two comments I read on the internet when Doctor Who won. One was from an old fan who claimed the whole thing was a fix and the second was from a Downton Abby fan raging at 'internet fanoraks' who stole the vote- what? So if Doctor Who fans vote its a fix but every Downton fans vote means more and is more valid? Yeah of course!

and also it is not about those that critique the show. Its about those few who call for Moffats head on a spike, say he should be sacked, how he has destroyed the two shows and how the viewing figures are dropping and AI is a false representation and catch up viewings don't matter and good reviews are just a combination of emperors new clothes and bias and paid off TV reviewing hacks. Its about that poster who said he had spoken to genuine fans and they said the show is rubbish now so this must be gospel.

Moffat and the production team have had a mixed couple of years all things considered and mistakes have been made. But since October it has been a series of triumphs for both DW and Sherlock and the fact some people cant even begrudgingly acknowledge this while accepting the shows aren't to their taste is fairly amusing.

and if I'm a Moffat fanboy then poor old Moffat because I despised his S6 arc, hated what he did with River, couldn't stand his half arsed spin about the series splits, the lack of promotion for most of the fiftieth year, felt S7 part two was lacklustre and disagreed with all the fan service in Sherlock S3. In my experience most of those who still admire Moffat and can celebrate his strengths just like the shows he writes and his style while remaining critical. Its some of the anti Moffat brigade who are obsessed with the man and everything he does. Theyre the ones who set up dedicated Twitter accounts to slam him and his shows. Who harassed him off social media. Who hate everything he does and yet they watch and follow it all. And who seem to think their opinions have some sway in his employment.

I thought Salad's posts were funny, but I don't think this thread should be a pro-Moff v anti-Moff argument.

Dr Who won two NTA's, which as others have pointed out, after 9 years, is huge.

And the BBC, in terms of profit, must view Moff as the only UK TV showrunner that rivals his USA counter-parts.

I tend to be biased and see this as two awards for Matt...he's carried this show through some right old gubbins..It's a credit to him that it's so well regarded.imo of course.

I am really pleased for Matt. It is a well deserved win for him and Dr Who. I am one of those who liked 7B more than season 6 or 7A. Dr Who this year had the best companion yet and the 50th anniversary episode was great.

I wish Matt had been there to collect his award, but glad Jenna and Moffat collected it for him. On a side note Jenna looked stunning and adorable.

I don't quite fall into this bracket.
I like the show but would place myself in the lower echelons on the scale of fandom.
As obsessed as some fans can get, I'm pretty sure they're mostly lovely people as they are on this sub-forum (which seems to get a bad rap which isn't justified)
The disgruntled fans who work themselves into a frenzied rabidity over Moffat must be a tiny minority.

I could be highly critical of Moffat on here but I just don't bother. I'm sure there are plenty of others who don't go to town on him either and just let it go.
I share a lot of the misgivings about Moffat's work that you've listed above but I'm sure I've also read posts of yours where you seem to be particularly aggrieved at criticism of Moffat.
It seemed to me that you could hardly bear a word said against him and that you were overly defensive on his part.

The thing is, I kinda feel for someone like 'Barry' because he doesn't have much else in his life besides Doctor Who.
If he thinks it's being ruined and vocalises this in an extreme way on social media, why not just let him get on with it, pay no mind and don't let it get to you.
Not everyone can be moderately composed about their feelings and opinions. Those who go too far will sink themselves.

As for me, I enjoy a ranter. Guilty pleasure. They amuse me.

I completely agree, my votes were intended as nods to Matt.

Matt's Doctor is his own creation, he had to find the character, bring him to life and let him evolve which he did beautifully - I don't give Moffat any credit for that.

I'd imagine it's a very complex role and once you let go of the character you've developed over time, it's difficult to reprise.
Tennant couldn't really summon his Doctor again in the 50th, no intensity, he was but a shadow so even if Matt makes an appearance in some far-flung anniversary, his Doctor that we know and some of us loved really is gone forever.
