Perfect porridge
1. Buy a bag of porridge. Pure porridge. oats. not those god awful sachets that are "30% oats, sugar, sweeteners, flavours etc"
2. fill half a mug with porridge (or just under 2 thirds for a more filling option)
3. empty said porridge into a saucepan.
4. fill the mug to the top with cold water. pour the water into the pot and switch the stove on. Bring to the boil, stirring well occasionally. add your choice of seasoning here too. Don't worry if the oats look watery, they will thicken on standing. 5 minutes is usually enough.
5. Pour the porridge from the saucepan into a suitable cereal bowl. let it stand, thicken and cool for a few moments while you wash the saucepan straight away, or leave it to soak in water. Much easier than having a roasting hot plate you can't touch for 10 minutes or more, a messy microwave and spoiled oats.
now heres the seasoning options. For the love of god do not add sugar or salt. Your taste buds adjust and after a few days you won't need either. We get enough of these from our food and its a waste of a good opportunity to be healthier. Here are your choices.
1 if you want a decent breakfast, to ward of cravings and give you more energy, add a scoop of protein powder.
2 If you feel the need for chocolate and want a filling snack anytime of the day add a teaspoon of Nutella.
3 simply garnish with your favourite fruit.
