Has LCN 180 xxXpanded TV closed on freeview?
tomee

LCN 180 xxXpanded TV has 'no video available' and did not broadcasts on freeview last night.

I wonder what going on? This might mean more hours for a channel that is part time on freeview or a new channel.

If that is the case, an extension for the Jewellery Channel for which they already have a IPTV stream via the red button between 00:00 and 06:00. Shall we speculate a new channel - ITV 4+1 - haha since ITV own SDN mux? Fittingly for LCN 48 (LCN 24 x 2) or the Jewellery channel to shuffle down?
Digital UK still hasn't revealed its plans regarding LCNs and priorities for allocating channels available in certain areas (GI channels), and its relationship for not yet allocating LCN 48.

So the next two weeks involves a number of changes to the SDN mux (on main transmitters only), but little retune required if your STB or TV has the placeholders already;
itv3 +1, The Store, Channel 5+24 (and timeshare availability in its downtime outside 19:00 - 00:00), Marketplace and speculatively xxXpanded TV removed.

They were on ch 180 for exactly one year.
It looks like their freeview contract has ended.

Its not been confirm what the hours will be use for yet.

xxXpanded TV contract with the provider that put them on Freeview has run out after 12 months and was unable to be renewed.

They are planning to be back on Freeview in the future with a new provider.

The Jewellery Channel MHEG is buggy and usually crashes my Sony TV if I am flicking through the channels. To answer your question, however, on my Sony, the broadcast stream appears and within seconds disappears, replaced by a slate stating that the TV isn't compatible. Blocking the broadcast and IPTV streams, something they might want to fix.

The Jewellery Channel's streamed service is operated by Connect TV.

Connect TV appear to operate on a "allow all devices unless blacklisted" basis. That is, all devices that should support MHEG-IC are allowed. If it becomes clear that there is a problem with a particular make/model, then it is blacklisted. It sounds like your TV has been blacklisted. Unless the manufacturer will provide an update, then your TV will continue to be blacklisted.

Synapse TV operate further streamed channels on DTT. They take a "whitelist" approach. Their default is "don't allow access, unless whitelisted". Only once a certain make/model has been tested (via channel 790) to work with their service and Synapse has been given the OK by the manufacturer, then that particular model will be allowed to access their services.

I'm aware of that and there won't be an update for the TV in question even though it is technically a Smart TV. That wasn't the point however, the message that the equipment isn't compatible blocks the broadcast video and audio, replacing it with an MHEG slate. A good way of preventing quite a few internet enabled receivers from viewing the normal service. It's relatively easy to work around the problem by putting the TV into standby, turning it back on and tuning into TJC before the wi-fi has time to connect.

It's not a major problem for me as I don't plan on watching TJC.

Of topic, but yes it will be. Authorised by Ofcom for transmission of extra coverage between 3rd - 24th February.

I actually thought you meant it was the streamed service that cut out, as you mentioned stream. Interesting because on a TV that does handle TJC's stream, nothing appears on screen during terrestrial broadcast hours.

Play with the blue and yellow buttons though and you get a blue and yellow flashing square in the top right corner though...!

For me, the implementation of the QVC Beauty streamed red button service is worst, as that cuts into the terrestrial broadcast and proceeds to load the "portal" screen.

What happens after midnight? TJC has resumed 24/7 broadcasts since the departure of xxXpanded TV.

That sounds similar to the problem with TJC on my Sony TV, although you get the portal rather than the compatibility slate.

Off topic, but I have noticed that 4seven and Film4 +1 on Arq B now has the Connect TV MHEG-IC carousel in the PMTs. Similarly E4 +1 links to an MHEG data carousel with the same PID number on Arq A. Are these channels carrying additional MHEG-IC streams?

I've not been up and watching TV beyond midnight since last week when channel 180 ended, so I'll have to find out if anything is active at all.

Regards the other query, toggling the blue and yellow buttons produces the mysterious yellow and blue flashing object in the top right, so something's there...

Wondering if Channel 4 might offer an MHEG-IC red button service for the Paralympics?

Although easily predictable as the next stage after adding ITV 3 +1.
