What do you get?
My corporate work phone which has 4G shows: XER-SDM-FE9 So you seem to have identified the problem. Now do I need CS to fix? |

That gives me: lhlrh1 xxxx xxxx (where the xxxx is 4 digits each time)

You'll need to tell CS that 4G doesn't work when it should (you could mention that another phone is fine which rules out coverage). Don't mention HLRs as they probably won't have a clue! I've known someone who had success with this using the live chat but I can't comment from any personal experience as I tend not to bother Vodafone CS too much... |

It didn't inspire my confidence in switching to them so stayed with 02. |

My VF PAYG SIM was the same and even after topping up wouldn't connect to 4G, I did manage to get it sorted via live chat.

Yes on that platform 4G will never work where as your work phone is on the new 4G one.

I have a feeling O2 is the same, you have to have paid for 4G data to be allowed onto 4G

What is Voda 4G like? Better than Three?
I have found a S7 edge 12 month deal with Vodafone and for the price its way better than anything I have seen. |

I switched from EE to Vodafone last night. EE in Glasgow Central/West End are heavily congested, and you are always get to connected to 2G when making a call instead of 3G. (Hence blocking data). So far Vodafone seem good in Glasgow, not the fastest data network, but I would say it's more responsive, with low latency unlike EE's. And anything around 10mbps is sufficient for me. (For streaming HD video, Apple Music and emails) :P

On another note, I just got a text from vodafone (see below) saying the network was going to be upgraded in the next 6 weeks and to expect 2-3 days disruption. I find this strange since all the masts in my work and home postcodes are upgraded. Any thoughts ?

Maybe LTE 2600 with Carrier Aggregation. But I highly doubt that since they tend to install this in London only.

I use Vodafone around Glasgow and find it very good. I don't frequent the city centre very often but outside of that I know Vodafone is great indoors and out. EE on the other hand is miserable in places and good in others. Where I live in the suburbs one of the main masts is still old school Orange. Vodafone have upgraded all the masts.
I've been carrying my phone around the west end today, and I get services indoor in most places, very happy with the service at the moment. (Even in a subway station) |

Well, the coverage checker is back online... and Vodafone still aren't predicting 3G coverage for Raunds (Northamptonshire)!
Raunds is covered by a crappy old 2G only mast (for Vodafone), and it urgently needs upgrading. |

I have found a S7 edge 12 month deal with Vodafone and for the price its way better than anything I have seen. Vodafone have most of the towns around where I go 4g'd now and although no rural masts have data yet (2g only) you can still get some data from 900mhz 3g masts in the towns as they travel a good distance. Only about 1 or 2 mbps but better then three's and EEs 0.02mbps speeds. Indoor coverage at home and on towns is much better too, it's only when I travel I miss being on three as they and EE really have nailed the coverage along most motorways and major route, where Vodafone & o2 still have some 2g only zones. |

But the 'gap' is closing every month, just as I said back in 2013/2014. We're now starting to really see how Vodafone and O2's problems are being eliminated town by town.
We've got EU roaming charges being axed next year, and I'm certain AYCE data being axed by Three, or increased in price to the point where it makes no sense for most people (given tethering is restricted). As such, I do wonder what benefits Three will have when it has put up prices to compete head to head with the big boys. There are still plenty of good things about Three today, but those benefits are going to be reduced. |

Moved from Three to Vodafone today after they terminated my One Plan. So far I'm impressed with Vodafone's 4G signal penetration indoors here in Glasgow West End.. I had to have a "Home Signal" femtocell from Three to get anything at home and even their 4G 800 is prioritised low so that an occasional one bar of 3G will prevent it from ever being acquired.
One thing that was strange was my bill was showing £40 per month for the Red Value SIM only package currently at £20, had to go onto live chat to get it sorted and Netflix added - which is saving me £89.88 as an existing subscriber! So far I'm impressed, just need to get WiFi calling added to the account. 4G 800 and VOLTE would round it off nicely. |

Fingers crossed, hopefully they will implement text via Wi-Fi calling, and VoLTE soon. It bothers me a lot that I cannot send message via Wi-Fi calling, unlike EE's implementation.
I have said before that having WC with no SMS would be more frustrating than not having WC at all! I've probably sent about 15-20 today over EE WC. If I had to go to the window to acquire cellular every time I don't think I would have any hair left (and I have a lot : ) Let's hope they sort it soon. |

The way it shows discounts is silly. It works out (for me) as 25% off but it's calculated daily so you get a higher fee that gradually goes down until it's right on the last day!
Vodafone shop staff get concerned customers coming in daily so it really should be fixed. It means you can't really work out your bill online, and just need to wait until the next bill is raised. |

I think VF/O2 are switching on some rural masts now as spotting 4g in some areas that I never had any signal. It's amazing how quickly things have changed from 2g to 3 and 4g in most places.

I wonder if Vodafone are planning to switch on some 2600Mhz band in urban areas. It's currently average at >= 10 Mbps in central and west end of Glasgow.
