The Vodafone coverage map looks to have been updated and there's more 4G coverage in Lincolnshire!

It will be at the point where the directors are happy. Cynical me thinks it means its a good deal for them, so only shareholder and maybe authority approval is needed.

Lowly employees are almost never considered in the matter.

Most of the planned coverage around my area (mid Cambridgeshire, near Ely) seems to have vanished. Why am I not surprised? lol

Are Three turning down the power of doing something to the signal of 4G.

My phone will see Three 4G, go to maximum of five bars, then "suddenly" jump down to 2 to 3 bars, why is this? It's very obvious when it happens and it's happened in many different locations.

This can vary on whether I have good or bad 3G signal.

It is probably taking a few seconds to look at the signal quality and SNR, or your phone might be lowering the power to save battery. 3 or 5 bars of 4G isn't going to make much of a difference.

The same has happened in East Kent. Comparing the current and planned 3G maps it looks like they are turning masts off, several areas are set to lose coverage. The predicted expansion where I am has gone, so there'll still be no Vodafone coverage at the bottom of the Elham Valley.

It's just showing the future and planned maps as identical for me, though I did see some people swapping out a Vodafone mast (one monopole for another) while passing through Cambridge the other day.

Vodafone are not turning cell sites off. The coverage map is updated by idiots who sometimes get the existing and future around the wrong way. I know of hundreds of sites earmarked for upgrading. 4G will soon be in Plymouth Exeter And Redruth in the West Country also Colchester in Essex and Gloucester

O2/Voda has been rolling out 4G in Bedford quite quickly, 4G'ing masts at a very quick pace, impressive.

Went past a local mast today and saw engineers working on it. Have had a bad signal and not much data working around here lately on O2, I can only assume it's to upgrade them to 4G like the rest of the work that's been going on.

Took a picture of the work taking place, you can see there is no cover on the antennas:

Here is the street view link:

You can see in the June 2012 street view, it was being worked on there too. And before that you can see it was a tiny little pole. Interesting to see the progress over the years.

Ah brill. Hopefully the city centre will get 3G free'd up once 4G goes live. 3G grinds to a halt during the day in the centre.

When is Stoke happening? Some masts half complete and loads of applications approved but no action as such yet.

O2 have put this application in today to replace a 3G mast in Grantham wkth a 2g/3G/4g one of the same height. Why would they only want to replace one in the whole town surely this won't give enough coverage or could it just be in preparation for a switch on in years to come

They usually do a load - however some they can change without planning permission. It does not mean its happening soon though as here in stoke they started these apps a year ago and still nothing. If anything a few more planning apps have just been passed by the council.

Just found another vodafone mast site in Stoke that has been started and then clearly halted for some unknown reason? I am not sure what the purpose of this green box and pipe that this coming out the other end, however according to the planning application that large mast is moving to the other side.

This is another interesting one from the Vodafone part upgrades. Been left like this for months, however today decided to stop and actually take a picture as you can see the actual wires at the base of this mast. The inspection plate has been off for months, im sure this could be dangerous?

That green box seems strange, fence missing to put it there and sealed with tape. Very nice.

I know it is hardly a good advert of engineering. I assume it could be easily locked as it has one fitted, but then maybe tape is much more effective. Again though another site started and then just left for months. Surly just finish off what you start, even if its only them.

I suspect the more I drive around stoke the more half complete I'll find.

Looks like additional power or fibre in.. But that is a tiny cabinet. They could be awaiting the fibre or power cable lay which there is major hold ups in some areas. Just a guess, as I know very little about O2/Voda plans and less so recently since they seem to have ripped up the plan.

Ripped up the plan? Why have they changed things? Is this why there are so many half complete masts left around then?

I live in a little backwater place called South Wales so I have never experienced 4G with O2. I am very lucky to get 3G mostly have that annoying E symbol which everyone knows is next to useless!

Anyway I had to go to Heathrow yesterday to pick someone up and while waiting I was very exicited to see the 4G symbol pop up on my iPhone 6

I have to say I was very impressed with it very quick and responsive just like being on my home WiFi connection.

But got home and back to reality!
