Today is a great day for me. After few call to voda customer service instead upgrading my plan they gave me 30GB of free roaming data valid for 90 days which I can use anywhere in the world. Great Vodafone thanks

I've just recently moved to Heanor in Derbyshire and I'm missing the speeds I was getting near Derby city centre already!

Coverage was great where I lived previously but now I'm finding my phone drops back to 3G/Edge which was a pain when I didn't have xDSL for a few weeks.

I see this often too when making calls on my LG G4, it's not switching to another mast as there isn't often one at the same strength as the call is in a rural location, 2g data signatures on the older masts don't often mean a great deal as you rarely get any data throughput whatsoever. Most around here tend to flick onto gprs or edge momentarily and then nothing, just bars on the phone, won't be sad to see the back of that as the upgrades progress.

Yes you are right. My location is rural too and no other mast around. When i have phone on edge(change manually) and make a call after finished the call i see GPRS. It should be EDGE. And i see that the GPRS signal is stronger than the EDGE. On EDGE I have 1/2 bars but on GPRS signal is almost 5 bars

Dartmouth and east of Ivybridge planned for 3G in Devon I see on VOD's map. But not for 4G. #M1kos, any idea? Just a map error or is this an initial install of 3G900 pending improved backhaul for CTIL treatment?

Yes mate I'd say so site near Dartmouth is currently only o2 2G so will be big improvement for Voda users

Hi,

I think that'll be 3G and 4G; for example, when the Raunds mast was upgraded, it showed planned 3G, but no planned 4G - now they've upgraded the mast, there is 3G and 4G. O2's even put 4G1800 in, which is a nice surprise.

O2 covergage map has had an update. Looks like the mast at Stretham, Cambridgeshire has both 3G900 and 3G2100. So if I recall correctly, that's ... 2G900, 3G900, 3G2100, 4G800 and 4G1800. Don't think I missed anything there.

If you dont mind me asking, how can you deduce from the Coverage Map which bands of 3G/4G is using?
mrMick

4G bands have been previously mentioned in the thread, and the coverage map let's you switch between 900 and 2100 on the 3G layer

Yes, i was going to mention that we have had 3G900 even before the upgrade (not that it was of any use though)

Thanks, I missed the band switch on 3G!

In somewhat related news, O2's status checker has this to say about Ely, Cambridgeshire:

"Our Network modernisation programme to improve 2G and 3G coverage and roll out 4G has reached this area. It does mean that you may experience intermittent service on your mobile device while our engineers 'do their thing'."

Getting there, ladies and gents... coverage in the area is improving

Slight tangent, but I'm currently in Mexico and glad to say Vodafone sticks to Telcel like glue, which is good as it has strong coverage pretty much everywhere I've been. Not tried a speedtest yet as I've had Wifi access but I'll give it a go before I leave.

Roaming with Vodafone is always great. Wherever I travel in Europe most of the time 4G and now with free roming it is even better.

Yep, just noticed now. Searched for Raunds and the 3G900 and 3G2100 from the ex-Vodafone mast is showing up, likewise with the 4G800/1800.

It's also showing up, when you press the box that says "Masts", that the mast is where the ex-Vodafone mast was (now upgraded to CTIL), and the old O2 mast is no longer showing.

Still no 3G/4G from the O2 Thrapston mast though... that one needs upgrading!

RRUs for 4G sometimes seem to be fitted about a week after 3G900 becomes live. Not sure why

Nice to see o2 are now taking roaming seriously, shame it isn't as good as Vodafone but a step in the right direction.

O2 travel is extending outside of Europe...

100MB before it's throttled to **** is perhaps small progress, but there's a long way to go.

PAYG users are capped at 100MB completely.

A fiver for 100MB of data is still pretty stingy, even if it comes with 120 minutes of calls and 120 texts.

I thought it was 150mb? Lol, also is it throttled to the point it's unusable like 3? Has anyone any experience of using this?

Well, it's only 3G in the first place. After that it's reduced to 2G speed I think.

O2 doesn't have 4G roaming does it? In fact, it makes me wonder how Tesco Mobile manages data given its summer data roaming promotion.

Correct it is 3G only also so is Tesco, o2 aren't offering any 4G data oversea's I wonder if they do indeed throttle your speed, despite saying in the T&C's it does. I wonder if it depends on how you use the data. If your streaming I can understand it.
