It seems to have got worse as such, a sin sure in the places I'm now seeing it, previously it used to just switch to 4g near enough straight away.
Going the other way around it does also now try and cling on to 3g/4g signal for as long as possible before switching over to 2g. |

Do cornerstone when they upgrade a mast run 2G on low power? Our area is terrible since upgrade only seems like one side of mast is working, when go behind it on A road you lose it, if that's progress then I'll have to try O2 hopefully they will add their equipment soon like the planning application said " Vodafone and Telefonica.

They run 2G as high as they can. No constraints on its power relative to other technologies.

Someone on Reddit said in the iOS 10 beta on O2 if you change 4G to Voice and Data you get a pop up message directing to a website, anyone able to show us the message?

Well must be faulty because when it was a 2G only it was great coverage now it's very poor you don't pick it up until a few meters away approaching from rear along the road even then it's weak go past it then signal starts to increase but doesn't last far what a muck up !
On o2 and Vodafone's website is it listed as faulty and/or are masts in the area including that one listed as going to be worked on in the next few days/weeks |

The carrier settings for O2 have enabled VoLTE. This aligns well with Apple's carrier support page (quoted a few pages back). I guess O2 is public testing VoLTE.

Seems like VoLTE may come his year for general release then. I also expect Wifi Calling to launch at the same time
I would also expect them to implement native wifi calling on compatible devices, if for no other reason than taking some traffic off the network. |

What about Vodafone carrier settings. Is the VoLTE enabled?

Looks like my nearest O2 mast will soon be having the CTIL treatment and adding 4G for Vodafone. At the moment it is O2 2G/3G only with 3G only being 2100MHz.
Now: http://i.imgur.com/ZVRxZZj.png Within three months: http://i.imgur.com/fEhN8TY.png Quite an improvement. |

Since a few Vodafone carrier versions back they changed the menu Mobile Data to show 2G/3G/4G and on top the heading 'Voice & Data' implying that VoLTE is there by default. On EE/Three (and presumably O2, somebody has to confirm) you get the options to enable 4G for data, 4G for voice and data or disable 4G. You can't lock the phone in 2G. So slightly different menu, but clear that VoLTE is there. |

At a guess they're doing some work in the area (maybe bringing masts from the other operator into CTIL/Beacon) and they want to wait until that's done before optimising the 2G for interference and handover and they're keeping it at that power until it's finished. Think there's some frequency restructuring going on on 2G at the moment so might be rejigging all of that at the same time (although the kind of planning should be done centrally on one frequency plan so maybe not).

Should also get 3G900 - I know that my local mast was G09/U21 before the upgrade, and now had UG09/U21/L08 (don't know about L18). Another local area, that had O2 G09/U21, and VF G09, got the CTIL treatment with O2 UG09/U21/L08/L18 and VF UG09/U21/L08. (Don't know about L18.) Now when on when oh when will the Thrapston mast get CTIL'ed, as that is a large coverage hole (certainly for UMTS and LTE) for both operators. edit: Still G09/18 only for O2 and G09 only for VF, with VF being quite weak in some areas due to not having a mast in Thrapston. |

Awesome, that'll give you better indoor (and outdoor) coverage in the area.

Is 3G still being rolled out? The mast upgrade close to e says no 3G is planned. 4G and 2G planned for future. There is no 3G at all in the area.
I can't guarantee anything but it would be likely that all technologies will be put on your mast when upgraded. 3G will probably be switched off first (before 2G) but that won't be for a while yet, so they'll likely get 3G and 4G both up to good coverage. |

I know that 3G was added to my nearest masts when they were upgraded... Also, the planned coverage for Raunds (Vodafone) said 3G only, no 4G... yet when the upgrades were carried out, 3G and 4G appeared!

That's good news. I think they've binned the idea of fibre-ing my local mast, as the previously listed roadworks.org road closure has disappeared and the future coverage map has reverted back to nothing.
Ah well, no great loss to me (other than backup) and I was always surprised they were planning it! ![]() Sound familiar? Looks like Vodafone might be falling into old habits, sticking to towns and city's and leaving out manyi rural & semi rural areas, must think nobody there needs mobile data... Ohh but they are doing masts along motorway links, I guess because they think everyone from towns and cities only commutes between said towns and cities via the motorway.

I noticed that has vanished tonight when looking around on roadworks.org, all the rural upgrades across 2g,3g or 4g have now vanished on Vodafone's coverage checker, only towns and city upgrades seem to be taking place...

The planned coverage didn't show the 3G upgrade to a known mast. Upgrade happened though. The 3G 900 equipment should be able to be switched to carry 4G 900 in future so well worth deploying
