890.1-894.7 is the uplink side of VF's second 900MHz 3G carrier in some areas so if it has been completely cleared of 2G in surrounding areas then expect to see it being used for 3G.

Thanks. I've just found uarcfn 2987 so that confirms the second carrier is live in Manchester. Also do you know what the idle reselection was in areas with a second 900MHz carrier?
My LG G4 is preferring 900MHz over 2100MHz. Presumably older phones compatible with only 2100MHz will use that and all others will use one of the 900MHz carriers. Looking at my G4 I'd guess it was;
L26
L21
L08
U09
U21
G09

Decided to top up my Vodafone sim to better research the ongoing reconfiguration.

Indoor speed tests;
U09 7Mbps down
U21 13Mbps down
L08 20Mbps down
L21 (5MHz) 8Mbps down
L21 (10MHz) 25Mbps down

Vodafone have got a sim only deal going for 20GB of data, unlimited mins & texts and 4GB of roaming data for £22.20 a month... not bad i must say

A lot of Vodafone L21 in Birmingham and the M6 (mix of 5 and 10 MHz). Also L26 with CA in Wolverhampton.

Has anyone a speed test result from Vodafone's 10mhz 2100 4g? I did not come across any in Birmingham when passing through at the weekend, just 5mhz which was 5mbps on average, speeds on a whole have been extremely poor in many areas now for a weeks..
I get the feeling Vodafone, in the West anyway have switched focus somewhat over the past few weeks from expanding data coverage over to shoring up its existing 4g network by enabling 2100mhz and clearing 2g frequencies for extra capacity for 900mhz 3g.
I can understand why they're doing this but it's leaving them way behind in areas they've not touched yet,
Travelled to Bristol at the weekend, M5 data coverage was poor or none existent in some places, not good when your trying to dodge changing traffic problems, data in Bristol was slow and when I visited Bath I found myself on none working edge often indoors or 300kbps 3g outside in some areas of town, EE seemed to manage 4g in almost all the locations and Mr was a strong 4g with some 3g mixed in.

Even though they are refarming spectrum, engineers shouldn't be required to visit sites so they should still be available to upgrade older masts. Whether they are doing so or not is another matter. The UK is certainly behind Vodafones other European businesses on rollout, and that's something they state they want to improve.

I did some speed tests today on the M6 with Vodafone L21 10MHz and speeds were 30+ Mbps, while travelling at 70MPH.

Over the last 4 days I've travelled from Sheffield to Stoke, Crewe, Wrexham, Shrewsbury, Telford, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester and back to Yorkshire. I had 4G about 85℅ of the time, saw 2G for about 3 x 10 minute spells and usable 3G the rest. Speeds were consistently good on 4G and 3G, including some very rural parts of the journey. It was very similar to the coverage on my EE sim.

Yes, 2987 is the second uarfcn (2938 the first). When the priorities were static I never saw any difference between the 3G bands (they were always 4).

It may be different your way but down sarf at least, the idle reselection priorities aren't static anymore and they can all change based on things like load so, for instance, I've seen L21 on every level from 2 to 7. Sometimes it's above 800 and sometimes below. It's the same for the other layers.

Just noticed that, but unfortunately it no longer has the option to differentiate between 900MHz and 2100MHz 3G...

Also, that lonely village/town of Thrapston still has no 3G/4G from either O2 or Vodafone

Finally I ve got an LG G4 which allows me to do the geeky band selection stuff! I can confirm Voda has 2100 (B1/5Mhz) on at least three sites in South East London although these sites all have 2600 (b7/20mhz) live as well interesting stuff Speed tests were around 15-18meg from a -85dbm signal it progates much further than 2600 too

Hmm.... I don't think there'd be too much of a difference, as the frequency difference is only 500MHz... Maybe VF are putting L21 on full power, and are restricting L26 in power?

I know (I was told on here once before) that L26 can match the coverage of U21, so L21 must have quite a lot of range... right?

More power is allowed on 2100 well it is on EE so I assume it's the same for Vodafone

Most 2100 4G still seems to be 5MHz in London but there are a few areas where 10MHz is appearing now e.g. Clapham Junction

Thanks. I wonder why L26 isn't run on full power then?

Something to do with co channel frequency interference? Or some other reason?

Later down in the article it says the company split into Cable & Wireless Communications and Cable & Wireless Worldwide - seems like the article is talking about the sale of the former, it's the latter which Vodafone bought in 2012.

Trying to run some nperf tests on my Oneplus 3 on Vodafone but it keeps erroring as it's flicking between 4G and LTE when it uses data. Seems a tad odd.

That's very odd, I mean, 4G and LTE are the same thing, right?

Unless the software thinks it is in the USA where what they call 4G we call H+ (HSPA+). Yes, they're strange in the USA.

I think it was an attempt to make it look like they've upgraded their network without doing anything.

That's very strange... as DC-HSPA+ (or even single carrier HSPA+) is a 3G technology, not 4G, or LTE.... I wonder why they set it up that way? (Though of course, it doesn't actually matter to us.)
