So 5 planning applications have recently been approved for new masts for Voda/o2 in North East Essex. Really impressive to see such a notable expansion.

On a pure mast count, it will put them very close to EE with the added benefit that all will be broadcasting 800mhz 4G. Could 2017 be the year that Voda/o2 overtake EE for 3G/4G in this area. I didn't think I would be saying that as an avid EE fan!

I guess it will all boil down to how far EE roll out their 800mhz 4G. Let's wait and see....
I think VO2 will try to beat EE but if EE roll out 4G800 properly and add more masts it will be difficult. Yes 2017 will be the year but doubt VO2 will reach EE. Out there are a lot of areas cavered by EE but no sign of VO2

I've noticed a good few planning apps going in for new masts in Wales for an internal project called "Grow the Grid". Looks like CTIL are going to be expanding as well as upgrading the legacy 2G sites (which will give them quite some coverage).

EE 800 will be good but I suspect in most areas they will be at least equal to EE coverage wise by the end of 2017.

EE are also expanding with a few new masts but I doubt heavily it'll be at the same scale as CTIL, which isn't what many will want to hear!

EE will be rock solid in reliability though in most places thanks to ESN so I think for most people they'll still be a good option but I think thankfully not the only option.

At the end of the day it's great for consumers as they now have a viable alternative (or will have)

These are all areas where both Voda and o2 have only been able to offer mostly weak 2G signals outdoor so it's great like I said to see they are serious about coverage.

What's also worrying is how far Three could be left behind. I would say they are worse than VO2 for 4G round here but have always had the added benefit of 3G in most places. EE have most masts upgraded to 4G however they really do need 800 4G on some of them to assist indoor 4G coverage. This is where VO2 could really excel!

Well noticed that my phone was on H+ today in a place that has always been G. It's got serious data lag so expect it is on a microwave connection, however looks like a rural mast must have been upgraded.

Those gaps are filling up and O2 / VF are closing the gap and Three are being left behind.

Going on what people have reported here, it seems that the new sites always have in common 2g and 3g at 900Mhz, but then 4g provision depends on which part of the country you're in; the O2 controlled areas are doing 4g1800, while Voda are doing 4g2100 (and possibly 4g2600).

But yes, typically the site is getting 3g and 4g.

Recently signed up to Talkmobile as I need Voda/O2 for work (voice) coverage. Was with O2 and haven't noticed a massive speed difference between 02 4G and Talk/Voda 3G.
Obviously, Talk 4G will be a more equal test as they've said it's currently in testing.

Yes I know of one it has a very thin trisector flag pole antenna on top of a church in Eltham Se9

I did see from Pedro's site that there was a legacy mast that got L21 only, so that they didn't have to change the panels. Though these must be few and far between.

Getting around 20 Mbps on Talkmobile 3G, didn't usually get much faster on O2 4G.

Pleasantly surprised so far, port in went smoothly and they seem reasonably cheap.
Even offered to upgrade my monthly rolling package to 12GB for £12.
