I am in Birmingham for the weekend to attend a friends wedding this evening I have been shopping all round the centre of the city and staying in a central hotel.
Was expecting 4G+ coverage in the centre especially around New St station and Bull Ring but nothing at all which I am very surprised about considering Birmingham was a launch place back in October. I have not been able to find any 2600mhz coverage yet unless I need to get something added to my account to enable it. Has any other customers had 4G+ in Birmingham yet ? |

In fairness a friend of mine was saying the same about his lack of 4g in Manchester and today when I. Congleton that we know has been switched on recently.
Suspect its something that has to be switched on their end to enable the sim - I know that is what he thinks and thats Tesco Mobile as his network. |

Well no sign of any 4G+ signal anywhere around Birmingham or the West Midlands in fact could not find any 2600 coverage at all.
I wonder if you need to have access activated on your account so went into two Vodafone stores and in total 4 members of staff had never heard of 4G+ in fact two said it doesn't exist until I shown them the press release from October. They were all surprised it mentioned Birmingham |

Japaul posted a while ago that there was some 2600mhz coverage around the bull ring / new street and at the Crown Plaza hotel.
This was in September though. Edit: I read the wrong post. You posted that uno. I'm confused now.

Lightspeed- That is correct when I went to Birmingham last year on my S4 I could pick limited 2600mhz coverage that is when it was in testing stages though.
Since then they have launched carrier aggregation in Oct 14 and i have got an S6 plus new sim so not sure if you now have to have 4G+ enabled on account as have also noticed this evening that a mast near Leicester railway station that I have had 2600 from is now only showing me 800mhz |

Uno you don't happen to know anywhere in Manchester to look for 2600MHz do you?

On the Honor 6, carrier aggregation did need to be enabled on the phone (it's off by default) but even then that wouldn't prevent it using 2600 (without aggregation). |

O2 sent out a text today saying that 4G is coming to Stoke soon and this will mean 3g improvements when it happens.
Who knows maybe this could actually happen this time after the false start last year. |

Seems like VOD are seriously beefing out 4G down the M5. Which is nice. Nothing much interesting planned on the map though. Which is rubbish.

Their map updates every Thursday, just check then ![]() Lots of places round here (NI) being upgraded every Thursday update, but they're never on the planned bit. |

Still no O2 4G in Alton or Alresford. I can only assume O2 have given up!

Looks like 4g upgrades have been started in Shropshire at long last,
Here is a few pics of a 2100mhz site that's being upgraded on a industrial estate in Market Drayton, North Shropshire. https://www.dropbox.com/s/h5nj71imov...19.30.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/48pyewtss9...19.00.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/wwjgcautqc...18.41.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/57c1tiag0s...18.30.jpg?dl=0 New Antennas seem to have fitted along with a tall grey box and space in the pad ready for another, O2 maybe? They've also left a Huawei box full of bits and an old office Yucca plant!! Couldn't get any more pics as the Chavs were beginning to circle... Work seems to have taken place on Wednesday or Thursday as it looked like the old antennas were still up before then when i drove past, though i could be mistaken. Not sure if there are any other masts planned to be upgraded soon in the area, sadly the mast was on the predicted 4g coverage map but seems to have now vanished. lets hope they roll out quickly as we need some 4g competition with EE around here ![]() |

VOD just added Torbay to the planned bit on the map if anyone is interested. Seems so far they are just converting the 3G areas to 4G. Time will tell if they push out into the wilderness.

Does anyone know of any rural or even urban 2g only sites which Vodafone have upgraded to 4g? |

Yes I know of many 2G only sites that have been upgraded straight to 4G. All the sites will be done just a matter of time Voda are laying fibre in several remote places in Devon / Cornwall one such place is the sleepy village of Holsworthy

Ive noticed in some places VF / O2 are just improving the 3g coverage and not touching 4g. Seems to be the roof top masts mostly.
I wonder if they can switch it on at a later date? Yet where they install those shared street works masts they seem to be 2g, 3g and 4g for both networks. |

Vodafone have updated there coverage map for my nearest town market Drayton, but seem to have it coming from the wrong mast? From the map it's coming from the watertower mast near the centre of town which is still only basic 3G, not even DC. but the upgraded mast is on the east side of town on the industrial estate. Hopefully they will do the other masts in town and some of the 2g mast surrounding the area as I'd fancy taking the plunge with Vodafone for the year and can put up with the 3G coverage on my work route which more the matches the flaky coverage of EE & Three, it's just in every other direction from my house it's 2g only which I cannot put up with, I'd have more confidence if the coverage map of nearby town didn't make it look like they'd switch strategy and started doing odd masts in areas and moving on.

Will these 2G + 4G sites (no 3G) ever get 3G?

It would seem a little odd omitting 3G given the number of non 4G devices still in use.
