I certainly can't see the benefits of mobile payment for me personally when I already have a very thin contactless card. You could slide it into the back of your phone case of you were that fussed!”

We don't all have phone cases on our phones though
Like I say I don't currently have a contactless card but I could use contactless with the apps out there, only Vodafone Wallet and EE Wallet at the moment but I can't actually use EE wallet as I buy sim only phones, I wish they would spend some money updating the app so it would work with unlocked phones.

The benefits I see is you may be standing in a queue at your newsagents so while you are waiting you reply to a text on your phone. You get to the till, tap your phone and voila, paid.
I see it as a matter of pure convenience, if you have forgotten your wallet you might have your phone, and if your phone is closer than your wallet you can just use that.
It isn't a game changer yet but I see it as I nice addition and I don't have security issues with it. If I ever did I could just turn it off.

I have actually used contactless once or twice on Santander. Once in Waitrose Piccadilly Station and once at WHSmiths. It does feel very futuristic, what I was surprised about was how the assistant was unfazed. After the launch of Apple Pay all I saw on the internet was stories of American's being amazed.

You've got to love those people in the US so amazed about Apple Pay and the like, given I was using a contactless payment card almost eight years ago (Barclaycard One Pulse) that also worked as an Oyster card too.

Back then the few shops in London trialling the service did seem amazed when I used it (often me being the first) but now nobody bats an eye.

Don't forget banking in the US is quite crude compared to the UK (and EU) expectations. They don't even have Direct Debit or anything like it. Card swipe and signature is the normal practice, so paying by mobile phone is quite revolutionary.

In Europe we've had chip&PIN and contactless for a long time, so payment by mobile will be a good enhancement to security as the mobile can calculate a unique token code instead of using the card number. This is where it is more interesting than using the 2mm piece of plastic which has an NFC / RFID chip embedded.

I think leaving your card at home is some way off. What if you want to spend more than £20, £30 or whatever it is quid? Or don't mobiles have the same restriction? It's pretty cool and will be handy if you forgot your wallet or you are just nipping out to buy 4 bottles of Merlot and a microwave cheeseburger for the evening but I think it will take a good few years for it all to come together.

Personally I'm still enjoying contactless. You just put your card on the thing and the shop assistance just kind of acts like you've actually paid and then you can take the stuff out of the shop and you don't get arrested. What's better than that?

Looks like Vodafone are gearing up to bring 4g to Telford in the next month or 2, a few planning applications for mast upgrades have appeared on the local council website and roadworks on Stafford Park on June 19th for a line of sight survey for a new mast.

Vodafone Connect looks good, £5 discount for existing mobile customers, but I don't think it states on the website whether PAYG is included or not, probably not.

I was impressed with O2 on Sunday as I was at Oulton Park for the BTCC. Usally you get no signal at all or a full signal but you can't do anything.

This year 40k+ in small area, calls and texts all day. Data was good in the morning and late afternoon, with near full signal. Well done o2.

Just found a little throwback from the past when snooping round Voda's website. http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/maps/

It's an old map that seems to show recent work on mobile masts although no 4g because it's so old. Not a mast list but interesting all the less.

Hiya. I haven't seen anyone on the forums mention this yet, I can't quite believe my eyes but o2 are now officially rolling out HD voice across the network. Not before time either as the call quality was the one of the main reasons I left o2 along with switching down to 2G for no reason despite a good strong 3G signal and sticking on o2 for a long time sometimes up to an hour!

I rang my sister of giffgaff to her O2 phone and we had a HD call

How do you know it's a HD call?

Usually by the massive jump in audio quality of the call.

It's easy to spot. An EE to EE Wifi call is awesome. Full wideband audio. You are so surprised by the quality (like the other person is standing next to you) that you forget what you called for! Hahahahahha

Took the coach from Glasgow to Edinburgh today and I was imoressed by o2's performance..... For a while. I seemed to get 4g for most of the bus journey. T
This made me hopeful that o2 had improved it's network in Edinburgh... But no, got off the coach and straight on to edge. To be fair, the edge is usable but I would expect better in a major city. My phone has been jumping between edge and 4g all day.

02 activating the cell outside Cleethorpes Leisure centre today, both 3G and 4G. The cabinet was installed last Christmas. Progress slow but getting there. Shown on Roadworks.org as well. Not on coverage map yet.

Whats vodafone signal like in Enfield London

One of my friends said he is on vodafone but hardly gets any 4g service in the area. Since i am in Enfield a lot I was slightly worried before i take a contract with them.

We've just moved to o2 at work.

60/26 on EE and 22/8 on o2. On an S6 and 5S respectively, not too bad from o2 but EE still blowing them out the water. (Roughly the same 4G signal strength)
