I'm not on a red tariff or payg. Just a regular unlimited talk/text with 1gb data. Was upgraded to 4G at no extra charge about 2 weeks back.”

PAYG doesn't work on 4G unless you've got a 4G-bundle.

Thinking more about this. Why are they putting 3G900 on this mast about 18 months (maybe more) after O2 did but no 4G? It's bang on the A38 and covers a good area. If they are using the same backhaul as O2 it won't work. Maybe they have fibre going in for 4G. Odd move. Odd that they didn't 3G900 it when O2 did.

O2 and Voda are using there own backhaul suppliers they share everything else except spectrum

Yeah, you're right. VOD use the old C&W network don't they?

Well originally I think it was just the mast they were sharing and the cabs were seperae. However appears to have changed now as deffo just one cab being installed and both going live, so must be cost saving.

Beacon has always been a MORAN (multi operator radio access network) setup - the sites with multiple cabs tent to be ones with extra capacity for high traffic areas.

New O2 site activated at Tallington, Lincolnshire. From about 5 miles away from the mast the speed was 28Mbps down 8Mbps down.

Even though it's even more spin there's an interesting article on Voda's blog (http://blog.vodafone.co.uk) that explains how their Head of Networks keeps SIMs from all the MNOs in her car. Bet that's fun when even she's using EE for data in the rural areas!

OK, but on all the original plans you were getting two cabs, however it does appear that on install only one is actually being installed. So something has changed - unless that will be installed later if that site is microwave linked up elsewhere.

It is fair to say they are catching up though now. I know in rural areas o2/VF is naff but the areas they are upgrading are now starting to see the semi urban areas usuable.

It will probably be a few years before on par with EE assuming they don't back off , of course.

They do seem to be putting in an effort this time. What worries me is if they just decide to stop. Just up from the SW their 4G is actually starting to look fairly impressive. In the SW there are few places done which weren't already 3G. I fear they will just ignore us again.

Buckfastleigh is planned for 3G, why not 4G too? Unless it's just an anomaly on the map. Maybe they'll give us 3G now and make us wait another 10 years for 4G?

Yes there appear so on be places where they are doing 3G, however maybe this is to do with limits on the backhaul? I think just better 3G would be a massive improvement.

If i click 'future coverage' on the 4G map, it's never actually shown any additional future coverage. This in spite of the fact it has improved. In fact it only ever seems to work when 3G is selected. Maybe i'm missing something..

Does the same for me, 3G has said we are getting coverage here in the next 3 months for about a year now.

Vodafone's future coverage always seems to show worse coverage for me...

It does work for 4g but I've found it's mainly on the west side of the country. You can see it at Wrexham and Chester and I think Crewe. But the map for that is generally crap. I always find it accurate for actual coverage though unlike some....

Just been to the Guildford College Site. 65/20 4G and 30/4 on 3G. Pic here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/46141405@N07/19637734791 Question I have is regarding Vodafone's antennas, which are on the corner of the building, below the tower. The right antenna is one of their older 3G types, which support 900 and 2100, but it only has two feeds, rather than four. Then on the right they have one of their newer antennas which supports 800, 900 and 2100, which appears to have six feeds, so 800/900/2100. So why have both antennas?

I did have a 4g signal from 02 and voda 2 bars indoors and 3 bars outdoor but since the leaves came back on the trees no 4g at all only full signal 900mhz 3g which has no data and 2g from another mast.

How in 2015 can O2 have weak GPRS only on the M3...

Is anyone actually able to top up on VOD PAYG without calling them? The app on my find keeps telling me I have mobile data turned off when I don't. The website top up just throws an error every time. I've called the bank and VOD are not even trying to take the money. I've had this before and it's a joke.

I've had that in the past too but it seems to be ok now. I just get a voucher when buying petrol or do it when I'm at the ATM.

I'm rural N Yorks and are Vodafone 4G enabled and it's very good. Trouble is there are too many rural areas where they are useless - though often 2g for calls at least. If they can get 4G rolled out widespread like they have here then things would look good for Voda. If no 4G in said rural areas then get 3G coverage ..... that works!
