My OnePlus One is picking up O2 4G but as we know this device doesn't support 800MHz.
What band could it be using then? |

Was surprised when trying out a O2 sim just how little 3g there was around here compared to Vodafone, I thought they would be nearly identical but Vodafone seem to use 900mhz much more then O2 which I guess makes the difference,

It kicked me off it very quickly (to GPRS)

Interesting if they have started refarming 1800MHz didn't think they would need it yet.

Are O2 commonly doing this? I thought they were literally only using 800MHz although I may be wrong.

Yeah it was just an example but I think the highest I've seen is about -64dBm or thereabouts, very rare to get that sort of figure ever unless the masts were running on full power of course.

It all depends how close you can get to the panel antennas a site near me shows -45dBm if you are exactly in front of them as the antennas are low down about 12m agl

A glitch on your OPO? I double checked how much 1800MHz O2 2G was left in Manchester and it was still a considerable amount, enough to cause interference if they started 1800MHz 4G. I'm thinking maybe your OPO quickly registered on EE/Three 1800MHz then returned to O2 2G.

Vodafone and o2 both have 2x5.8MHz on 1800MHz, so a reasonable amount. Orange and T Mobile each had 2x30MHz

They all had their licences amended to allow all technologies on their frequency holdings.

I was able to use the connection for 30 seconds or so before it went to GPRS and it was very responsive just like 4G is. A webpage loaded very quickly which from a lot of experience of O2 doesn't happen with 2G or 3G. Could it be a network test? |

O2 did mention recently that they are planning on refarming 1800 to add 4G capacity.

o2 and Vodafone would have to swap their 1800 spectrum though for it to be continuous with 3's. I can imagine Vodafone would block this?

It's not connected to the 3O2 deal - just something they are doing themselves as they feel it would be useful. They only mentioned it very recently.
I've found a brief reference to it in this article on O2's SON plans. It also mentions wifi calling. http://www.computerweekly.com/news/4...from-customers |

Plymouth came up as planned a while back but then vanished from the map again. I would have thought there and Exeter would be major targets to get done soon. I notice Dawlish is planned as well. Seems to be all a bit random if you believe the map.
