I wonder what sort of speeds you are likely to get on a CA mast.

Looks like a lot of older phones will work great with O2 4G+ as it is within the cat.4 LTE boundaries. Not a bad move at all. Hopefully they roll this out even more cities then. Manchester would be another great addition.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully they roll it out to other cities with reasonable speed, they might even enable it faster than Vodafone are 2600MHz at the moment.
As usual I'll be happy to test it in Manchester once reports of it start coming in.

Out of interest, how many CA phones are Cat 4 only? I didn't think there was that many. iPhone 6... Others?

I think all the previous generation phones are Cat.4. So S5, G3, probably the Z3 and many more I can't think of at the moment.

I thought there were a lot of phones that were Cat 4 but didn't do aggregation so wouldn't be of any use on O2 for 4G+.

I'm no expert on the specs of different phones though.

I think it was mainly Snapdragon 801 devices which had the correct radio, but I'm not sure which exact models.

After checking the network coverage & maintenance page today there seems to be maintenance work planned for tomorrow (24th September) over most of North Shropshire and parts of Staffordshire, I checked, Woore, Betley, market Drayton, loggerheads, Baldwins gate and Shifnal, all came up with the same report...

Vodafone 4G now rolling out in Exeter

Really? Hasn't shown on the map as planned at all. I wish they would make that thing more accurate. Most of the A38 down from Exeter keeps going from planned to not planned for 3G and has done for ages.

Having said all that, my mast is scheduled for 3 maintenance today and everything seems to be off, VOD as well.

I always got EDGE in my house with Vodafone and GPRS with O2. In addition, I always got very, very weak 3G with Vodafone and no 3G at all with O2.

Today I noticed that EDGE on O2 is now available (identical signal strength to Vodafone), as is weak 3G.

I can only assume Vodafone and O2 are now sharing the same mast.

I've spotted L1800 on the Killingworth mast in North Tyneside. The only one I've found in the north east!. I wouldn't have thought it a particularly massive capacity area. No sign of it (yet) on masts in Newcastle central..

Someone is working on a Vodafone monopole in Truro (next to County Hall and Sainsburys). I wonder if it is being 4G'd. There were a load of cones, a tipper with highway maintenance markings, all that sort of thing, so I wonder if there's major work going on.

What's more surprising is that the actual tech seems to be working out of a car, no van with a company name on it

I was in Crewe today and have to say the coverage is really good. The 3g now goes from the town centre of Crewe all the way into many of the villages in rural Cheshire. They really have upped their game.

At a guess could it be the Ericsson areas being L1800 enabled first? I assume North Tyneside is a O2 Ericsson Cornerstone area, and the areas in London which have been L1800 enabled may also be Ericsson.
If that's true then the Vodafone cornerstone areas may be in for a long wait.

It's been really great seeing the coverage grow round here this year from nothing to indoor 4g out in the sticks, still a few more masts with upgrades scheduled around Crewe over the next week's so will improve even more, Nantwich now has 4g too which is very good, Vodafone won't be challenging EE any time soon on the speed front, but away from speed test world in reality Vodafone's 4g travels far and doesn't Vanish soon as you move out of sight of the mast which makes it very usable..
Now I just wish they would complete the upgrade of the O2 mast I pass on the A53 at Hodnet, the 4g cabinet was delivered almost 2 months ago but still waiting for a mast upgrade

Cornerstone is the network sharing agreement between Vodafone and O2, also known as project beacon.

The country is split up into halves (except London) with Vodafone in charge of upgrading one half and O2 the other, or at least that was the plan in 2014, I'm not so sure about now. Vodafone use Huawei and Ericsson baseband kit, O2 use Ericsson and NSN kit. Interactiv-uk can probably help me out here, it is actually his post back in 2014 I'm referring to now.
