I don't think you'll find anywhere in London that has no signal of any kind, except the Underground of course.

I did! Not even 2G. And it was outdoors.

Interesting root metrics report yesterday about London. http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/blog/s...ban-experience

Shows how much Vodafone have improved that they are challenging EE.
Vodafone is certainly showing promise. I was thinking of switching from EE but 4G is nowhere near as ubiquitous even in London.

I wonder if Vodafone will still question the results as they did a year ago when they were seen in bottom place.

Where Vodafone has upgraded, especially with 2600, it's easy to compete with EE.

EE still seems to be capping at 100Mbps. But it is rolling out 2600 beyond London, and I now have it at home and get 100Mbps almost constantly, which is really nice (and up to 50Mbps up, which is equally 'wow'). I know from an engineer that without the cap, I should be able to get nearer 180 (as that's what he got himself). It's actually quite frustrating to know this!

Vodafone can actually give people results of 150Mbps and higher, which is great, but overall it is still far behind EE nationally.

EE will have 800 for rural areas, with VoLTE, before the end of the year. It knows speeds will be low and I expect it will be set up much like Three's VoLTE with a very low priority, but at the same time, EE is rolling out Cat 6 nationally and Cat 9 will soon go in for more cities to further increase speeds.

Expect EE to make a big thing of Cat 9 when we get devices supporting it next year.

EE is clearly likely to win on speed nationally for some time and still win the awards on RootMetrics, but I have high hopes for what Vodafone will be offering in 6-12 months.

It seems to me that Vodafone will be the more reliable network and EE will be the faster.

In some respects that maybe true in the long run, EE had the headstart and credit to them they have continuously invested in their network not stopping at all. Vodafone as we all know has a lot of catching up to do, they are ok in urban centres, not so much for rural areas in terms of 4G. Unless I am mistaken EE and Vodafone are the only networks investigating coverage using small cells, some placed in street cabinets. I think we are coming to a time when everyone now needs and wants 4G as opposed to 3G stop gap offered by sure signal like boxes.

So Vodafone 4G is capped at a maximum of just 10Mbps D/L on Pay as you go, pointless in having 4G

On EE and if I got those speeds, I'd leave.
I'm disappointed if I get less than 25Mbps.
In my local village (Harberton) the other day going to a job I did a test and got 93Mbps down and about 18 up.
They have just had FTTC installed and most of the village can get up to 80 meg now since the cab is in the centre of the village.
I'm walking down to a job and I get 93 meg!!!

I've not seen that. Have you tried it with their Net Monitor app?

No I haven't but it's a bit annoying I can't get above 10Mbps over 4G in London...

I've just started a 12 month contract with Vodafone but I've still got some credit on my Vodafone pay as you go and had a 4g speed of 49mbps using the speedtest.net app so it doesn't seem limited to me, I think I read somewhere 2600mhz CA was limited to contract aims but can't be 100% sure.
EE did limit my pay as you go sim speed to 30mbps when I was trying them out though.
Does the netmonitor data still come off your allowance do you know?

I don't think the net monitor stuff comes out of the allowance. Looking on the Play store it has this to say :
Vodafone UK:
Vodafone Net Perform is completely free and no extra data charges will ever be charged to your Vodafone package.
To view a complete list of all data collected and to learn how it is anonymised visit http://www.vodafone.co.uk/about-this...one-netperform

Looks like Telford is back on the planned 4g coverage checker map again after vanishing for a week. From what I can tell they must be planning to switch on the mast near the m54 close to the Wellington retail park. Nothing else though despite trial digs Been done end of July.
Shrewsbury looks close to going live on a few masts, battlefield/featherbed lane area would be my guess first off.
Also a street works mast might be 4G'd this month in Cosford which has will give a bit of 4g coverage to Albrighton and Cosford.
Quite a few additional masts filling in coverage holes seem to have work planned on them on the roadworks.org site around Stoke. Newcastle under Lyme & crewe but no sign of anything happening around Stafford, Staffordshire moorlands or south Staffordshire..
Things are improving loads but even now it is slower

Yeah, I think it's a genetic anomaly.
Attempt to liven up the forum.
Way back in 2012 we used to have crazy Friday nights.
Since then it's all gone a bit serious so I thought I'd try and move it to Thursdays, just to get people in the mood, if you will.
Will probably have no effect whatsoever tomorrow but there you are...
I can only but try.

Vodafone's network has almost given up in London recently.

That's not a cap, that's simply what I've been getting recently around W1 on 4G - sometimes half that . . .

Its 2:53am and I'm getting 20.05 Mbps down and 8.91 Mbps up - only on the 2600mhz band probably though as they haven't/won't turn on Carrier Aggregation for the 6S yet.

I have yet to see planning apps even go into the Moorlands council, other than Biddulph, which is now done.

If that's really a Galaxy S3 handset then I suspect you need a newer 4G chipset - its an old enough design and is Category 3. This is same as iPhone 5 which is Cat 3 using Qualcomm MDM9615 LTE chipset.

That goes back 4 years, so time to upgrade to a handset with Cat 6 support, like the Galaxy S6 or iPhone 6s (note the iPhone 6 is Cat 4 with very basic aggregation, almost 4.5 - the 6s is proper Cat 6.
