Moving back to masts ....
Is the reason why 2g masts don't seem to have been upgraded as o2/VF cant reach agreements with land owners? I can't imagine they are too pleased as they will be looking to half rental costs. |

I don't see any reason why things should go over budget, besides a few influential people in the Chilterns succeeding in getting more of the line put in tunnels, at huge cost.

I'm pretty sure there's a Vodafone 2G cell in the Hindhead tunnel as I can't see how I can receive -50dBm E in the middle otherwise.

Vodafone sent me a text today saying they're expanding WorldTraveller to an extra 28 destinations, including Japan and Canada, as of Dec 1. This is great, as (relatively) cheap roaming is the best thing (in my opinion) about Vodafone.
I always thought it was a bit odd they advertised 4G roaming in Canada and Japan on big billboards at Heathrow when they were charging £3/MB for people to actually use it. I went to Japan in April and just bought a mifi and local data sim instead of paying crazy prices to roam. At £5/day I'd just use Vodafone, so it's a win win (as Vodafone makes more money out of me and I get to just use my phone like I do in the UK - including being able to stream, tether and use my full data allowance). It's also great to see them expand the zone again after the previous expansion on 15 June, after Three seem to have slowed down on growing their 'Feel At Home' list. The text message said to visit vodafone.co.uk/worldtraveller to view the "new WorldTraveller Zone" but it looks like the new list isn't up there yet. |

I wish the networks would talk about this more so you could get a good idea of how much effort each network is putting in. Vodafone talk at length about putting signal into the Shard on their blog, and their other rural open sure signal efforts but I can't find anything about in tunnel signals (again other than Eurotunnel). Similarly I get EE (legacy Orange) 2G signal in the rail tunnel by Old Sodbury, but it's not like EE seem to talk about it (I could even roam onto it last year when I was still on Three!).

I finally decided to take advantage of the 20GB SIM only plan today, but for some reason I am only able to get 3G. Is there a delay before you get 4G (I recall that being the case when activating a PAYG SIM)? I got the SIM around 1430 but only put the SIM in a phone (Moto X 2014) at 1800. I've rebooted a few times and even forced the phone to 4G only, and not a sausage.
Got the text welcomes saying world and euro traveler is activated, but nothing else. Not even sure how to check how much data is left, as it will be less as I'm part way through a billing cycle. I know I get unlimited for three months, but I need to know because I'm in Berlin on Wednesday and assume when abroad I only get the data allowance I've paid for? The Vodafone app says it can't tell me anything as it thinks I am on a business tariff?? I got it from a retail store! (I get that with review SIMs from Vodafone, so can you check SIM only information from the app?). I'm starting to wonder whether I made a good decision getting a SIM now! I'm confused. |

I've not been through but often masts at each end of tunnels are pointed at the portals.

It's not on Sitefinder but then it may have been installed since May 2012.
Your gonna have to do a handbrake turn across the road blocking all the traffic and just tell everyone to wait while you walk up and down with your phone waving it about!

May sound dumb but are you in a 4G area? Forgive me if I'm insulting you!
I got 4G straight away when I got my sim. Plus, I know there's 4G here because 3G is actually quite good. If I didn't have 4G, 3G would be at O2 speeds! Quote:
Download the my Vodafone app, set it up click on the cog to open the settings then select extras if it says euro/world active then on a separate line you should see 4G I'll screen shot you mine... One sec
Edit...... https://www.dropbox.com/s/e9z10at6k8...49.15.png?dl=0 I get: 'We're working on it. My Vodafone isn't available for our business customers at the moment. We'll be updating the app soon. See our FAQs for help with any questions you may have' The (paper) contract makes it clear what tariff it is, and that I have Euro/World traveller. I was also asked about the content lock, and I asked for that to be taken off, but that's on. Something didn't quite go to plan it seems. The phone number in the side 'burger menu' is correct. However many times I try to reset the app, it does the same. |

But as for the admin, it's a bit of a joke so far, I signed up for the 20gb aim only red deal which is selling at £30 (was £40) had the email, contract and so for sent to me, then after I'd registered the my Vodafone app and direct debit email said I was paying £40 a month, it took several phone calls and I'm still not 100% sure it's right, everything on the admin side seems very slow and unnecessarily difficult. To think I thought three was bad! Actually they are just as bad, charged me £10 early leaving fee despite being out of contract since March.. 😕 |

No fix this morning, so back to the store later then. I need 4G!
Damn. Hope the direct debit is olay! Edit: 0710 and 4G has appeared! Wonder when they update their systems? Can't view details from app still though. |

That's been my experience of things, what ever change is made, it takes at least 24 or 48 hours for systems to update, they seem incredibly slow, porting my number over took an age to complete online as I had to set up different steps each taking days at a time. But at least I'm now sitting here at work with 23mbps 4 mbps up on 3g now instead of a signal with no service on 3g or 4g on three, looking forward to 4g launching here soon too.. Not that many parts of Telford really need it much as the 3g network seems largely very modern

I just got 111 download speed in Westminster, that's a new record for me (beats the 91 I had on EE). Over twice as fast as my home broadband! When Vodafone get it right they really do.

It's nuts when you think about it. Mobile data is so much quicker than fixed line these days, of course we all know it will slow down.

Until EE lifts its cap, it will be possible to beat EE in any places with good 2600 service.

Remains to see if Vodafone will add 2600mhz on a wide scale or just limit it to London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Speed isn't everything .just 3meg all the time in every place would be nice.

Totally agree clewsy, that's why I switched from three to Vodafone, got fed up of literally having 67mbps one side of a traffic island and 0.05mbps at best on the other, along with signal one minute, gone the next, I spent years with just 4.5mbps home broadband and that managed to do everything I wanted, including streaming HD, I now have double at home but stalls at busy times, I know which I preferred!
There's no 4g yet where I work and the building are basically metal sheds with offices and workshops in, I can get 24 mbps from the local 3g mast on 2100mhz but often put my LG G4 into 900mhz only mode which is normally between 1 & 4 mbps as it's better when surfing the Web inside a metal shell. |
