That will explain it at least as couldn't workout why I'd be getting 4g when they hadnt swapped the pole, but it was a shared 2/3g site before hand so had a Jupiter pole. I think it's meant to be going to 15m when the new one is installed.

What I never get is how they always apply for 2BT...... Cabinets, yet they only ever seem to install one.

Extra cabs Future upgrades. The cabinet set up is interesting any number from one to five can be installed. I know of sites with only one cabinet (usually a alifabs Lancaster or vulcan) which are 4G enabled for both o2 and Vodafone but only only voda 3G. As the o2 signal comes from a separate mast nearby. (this set up only happens in London as outside M25 the sites are fully shared) then we have o2 who favour Alifabs where Voda use Huawei and Ericsson

Not sure it's wise to launch anything this close to Christmas?

VODAFONE WI-FI CALLING NOW AVAILABLE ON SAMSUNG DEVICES

Vodafone UK has announced that its nationwide Wi-Fi Calling service is now available to customers using the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge.

Customers who opt into the service by texting CALLING to 97888 will now be able make more calls in more places - whether in a home with thick walls, in a basement, in the local coffee shop or even while waiting on the platforms of the London Underground. If connected to Wi-Fi, customers can talk on their phone even if there is no mobile signal.

The introduction of Wi-Fi Calling earlier in the autumn follows the rollout of Vodafone’s nationwide provision of HD (High Definition) Voice technology, the roll-out of 4G+ (Carrier Aggregation) and the Vodafone Rural Open Sure Signal programme aimed at giving 100 remote communities mobile coverage for the first time.

In addition, Vodafone UK’s £2 billion investment programme during 2014 and 2015 is focussed on bringing stronger indoor and outdoor network coverage, and mobile internet access to more communities and businesses. This has already seen 4G extended to 731 cities, towns and districts as well as thousands of smaller communities across the UK.

For more information on Wi-Fi Calling, compatible devices and further information on opting into the service, visit www.vodafone.co.uk/wifi calling”

Their press releases are like the legacy Vodafone network, very slow .

Once you start the work it removes the time limit

5 years usually and as mentioned once you have made a 'material start' which might be just putting in a footing or base, you have started and that limit goes away.

Some councils give three years and others five - you would of thought they would all do the same as it should be a National Policy.

Around here "material start" seems to mean digging a hole. There's a plot of land in one of the towns that has been for sale for years on the basis that the buyer builds some flats on the site - the sign says "planning permission marked as started so no permission needed". All I can see is a hole.

It appears it's 3 years around here

Vodafone certainly made the most of the digging just a hole thing on a rural O2 Street pole where the A442 meets the A53 in Shropshire, for almost a year they has a hole with badly put together ply board mockup of a cabinet over it.. Now they have actually put the Huawei cabinet in place, but several months later the pole still hasn't been replaced and it remains a O2 2g only site, pity as there quite a coverage hole even on 2g let alone 3 or 4g due to the landscape and this mast would sort it out perfectly..
Talking of embarrassing coverage, I made a rare trip out West from home up into the rural areas of North Shropshire and Wales, North of Shrewsbury into Oswestry, Ellesmere Baschurch and beyond, Vodafone was very patchy, 2g everywhere except near Shrewsbury, Oswestry & Whitchurch, EE on the other had was a unbroken 3g or 4g everywhere, even when Vodafone has no service. There were clearly some catching up to do here..
Merry Christmas everyone!

We had a barn conversion round here where they had planning 30 years ago and proved a material start on laying a line of bricks on the deck. Good luck to them I say.

Merry Christmas everyone!

We had a mast with a box over a hole for 18 months and now it has the cab installed and is giving out 4g, it's another site where the pole has not been swapped over yet. They seem to like reusing the existing poles and I guess the planning for the extra height is just useful for the future.

I found Vodafone 900, 1800 (2G) and 2100MHz mast pictures on my PC, thanks to having visited the same mast several times over the past decade.

Vodafone 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz mast

Now looks like second picture: Guildford transmitter

Hi

Ive just spoke with VF via their online chat. I've been told that their roll out of 800Mhz Spectrum will begin 01.01.2016. Any of the VF Guru's out their that can confirm this?

Thanks

Whilst it might start next year I doubt many will be working on New Year's Day rolling out new technology at such a sensitive time with limited staff around.

800Mhz is used for vodafone's 4g service, so rollout had to begin before that launched in 2013

The live chat people no absolutely nothing about Vodafone's network plans. Only those in the HQ and rather high up will have an idea.

If they said from 1st January then I guess they're technically correct.

They could have just as easily said from 1449 onwards today and also been correct.

So what have their customers been using for 4G since 2013?

This is a load of bollocks if they meant nationwide. Vodafone already use 800 spectrum as their primary 4G rollout frequency, although with less power than Three are doing. If they meant at your location then it's unlikely because 1/1 is a bank holiday I think so little work will be happening then.

I went on a little mast hunt today to meet a relatively small monopole on a residential street which must have been one of the most objected about mast upgrade I've ever seen. Thing is that the upgraded is only 12.5m tall and also it blends fairly well, to the extent that my mum/brother did not even realise there was a phone mast right in front of them.

Pic: Vodafone and O2 mini monopole, St Omer road, Guildford.

It covers quite a large area too which is reflected in the speeds-23mbps down 4G, 11mbps 3G. Also, typical three cabinet setup.
