Sky have stopped line rental saver
It seems that those nice people at Sky have stopped their line rental saver http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php...-discount.html

I can testify to this. I took out the line rental saver in May last year and the upfront payment of £119 disappeared into the TV section of my bill and wasn't seen again. Until I complained, of course, and then it took them until October to sort it out and put my account back to normal. Their systems were just not up to supporting the offer. It's a shame they're ending it, but given my experiences last year I'm not surprised. Even more incentive to move back to BT though (but perhaps keep the Sky broadband, if that's possible). |

We've had similar problems the past two years we have used it. It basically came down to operator error rather than a problem with their systems.
How are they going to justify a 60% increase in line rental to all those who used this system? |

Regarding BT Line Rental Saver, I renewed mine last week and it's still at last year's price - increases are at different times from their general price increases and are usually in May or June. |

BT LRS went up on, AFAIR, 1st June last year so - if you renewed last week - it will have been at considerably more than you paid this time last year!

People still have 2 or 3 months to beat the next Saver increase (or abandonment if BT do a 'Sky'). Currently it is saving me £51 a year.

From reading various posts on the Sky forum, some Sky CS bods are still offering this deal if you phone them up. I'll be jumping ship if I can't pay in advance with Sky - seems mad considering their main rivals do it...

Currently we are effectively paying Sky £10 per month line rental (£119.40 per year) and £7.50 for broadband. If there are no offers on line rental then it will be going up to at least £15.40 a month (over 50% increase). So that brings the combined price to £22.90.
Virgin offers an annual line rental bundle which effectively gives you phone and 50Mbps broadband for around £10.67 + £15.50 = £26.17 which looks to be an attractive alternative with good broadband speed boost. PlusNet also offer annual line rental for £131.88 (£10.99 per month) and 16Mbps broadband for £9.99 = £20.98, better value than Sky. So I think Sky may lose a lot of customers if they don't come up with a good retention package soon. Isn't there some condition in Sky's small print about annual increases not exceeding 10%? |

If the annual rise is above some limit you can leave while otherwise in minimum contract. This cannot apply to Line Rental Saver as anyone finishing it will already be beyond the 12 months minimum term! |

Sky never made a "big thing" of their Line Rental Saver so I doubt most customers have it - or know about it!

At the moment, Plusnet are doing an offer for their Unlimited BB at £3.25 a month for 12 months...
They certainly made a heck of a lot of the folk migrating from O2 last year know about it. I migrated and was offered the 12 month line rental deal before I even had a chance to mention it (along the lines of "would you be interested in paying for 12 months line rental up-front for even further savings?") and the CS guy I dealt with said they were trying to get all new customers, at the time, to take up the offer... Earlier this week it only took me 35 minutes to convince them that I really didn't want to continue with Sky TV at my contract's end. Sky - don't you just love 'em? On the other hand who knows what exciting offers I may have missed! |

I moved from 02 last May and was told that up front line rental wasn't available under the 02 migration offer! After explaining that I knew others had received it, I finally got it!

Although Sky line rental saver is largely considered a dead duck there are alternative deals Sky can willingly provide. Some can even prove better.
I have cancelled my Sky TV package but get to keep my Sky broadband and line rental. I just pay half price for line rental and full price for broadband and do not pay any extra supplementary charge for not having Sky TV subscription. This is a 1 year re-contract Doubtlessly Sky will make me TV offers in the future but I'm well covered without subscription. The Sky + function on my Sky HD box still works with old yellow house Sky card - not illegal. I also have freesat and freeview PVR boxes. My smart TV gives me BBC , ITV , CH4 , CH5 on demand stuff. I'm sorted! |

I dislike haggling with companies for deals which other people have been lucky enough to get! Unlike the TV service it does not need ANY contact with Sky at all to transfer the phone and broadband (all can be driven by the receiving Telco) - so that is what I did! |

I would hardly say "willingly" ... you have got a good Sky Advisor on a good day. In the Sky forums many people are just getting told "No!"
Another poster phoned and cancelled their TV and then got a call from retentions offering 50% off, which they declined. On their second call they got 55% off the TV plus half price line rental, which is better than the line saver deal anyway... think they already had a fiver off their bb cost, too... So random. I'm guessing it depends on the targets of whoever you get on the phone... |

Hmmm. When I originally spoke to Sky to query it (since the operator never mentioned it at the time of me signing up) they were adamant that it was fixed into the system and there was no way it could be waved unless I signed up for TV as well. ಠ_ಠ

Depends on who you speak to. CS bods lie.
For what it's worth, the website that was later sent around advertising the offer to o2/be customers did mention in the small print that the £10 standard rate actually included a £2.50 surcharge for not having TV which was not part of the offer. So in effect it wasn't free, rather 75% off (or less if you don't take up Sky Talk), but maybe that's being pedantic. Don't get me wrong £2.50 is hardly breaking the bank but it was the principal. |

Someone on HotUKDeals cancelled their Sky TV earlier in the week and called last night to cancel the phone and BB - got offered unlimited BB for £5 a month and free line rental for the next 12 months! They also took out anytime calls for another fiver... Who you get on the phone when you call them really does make a huge difference...

When you sign up with another telco Openreach inform Sky of the transfer date and Sky Talk and Broadband get cancelled on that date. |
